He oha nā Hiwa ka takoto i te mataaho
Hiwa, the wishing starā€™s gift lies at my window sill
Mō te tūpono i hē te ara i whāia
In case I chose the wrong path
E arohaina ana te ao e noho nei au
I love the life Iā€™m living
Te kurī taringa pīkari, kei te rapu tonu i te mea ngaro
Thereā€™s my attentive dog but still I search for what is missing

Kua roa e takahia ana tēnei huarahi
Iā€™ve been on this path for some time
Atu i konei, ki hea atu rā?
Iā€™ve yet to decide where to from here

Ko ngā hine rerehua, ka rerehu noa atu
The beautiful girls, they will fade
Ko te ao hurihuri tēnei e huri ana
And the world will continue to turn

E aua!
I don't know
Kohore ana pea aku mata
Maybe Iā€™m just blurry-eyed
Kohore ana pea aku mata (mata)
Maybe Iā€™m just blurry-eyed

Takoto kau i tō moenga, he whakakai i te taringa
I lay naked in your bed, wearing only earrings
Puta ana i te pō, kanikani tahi ai
Weā€™d go out dancing at night
Ka mahuta te rā, kua tata mai te ahungarua
The sun will rise and weā€™ll grow older
Ko koe tonu tērā taku whakawairangi
Youā€™re still the one Iā€™m crazy for

Kua roa e takahia ana tēnei huarahi
Iā€™ve been on this path for some time
Atu i konei, ki hea atu rā?
Iā€™ve yet to decide where to from here

He wā tōna ka rata koe ki puoro kē atu
There will come a time when your taste in music will change
Ko te ao hurihuri tēnei e huri ana
But the world will continue to turn

E aua!
I don't know
Kohore
Blurry-eyed
Kohore ana pea aku mata (mata)
Maybe Iā€™m just blurry-eyed

Kia pai mai rā
Oh, make it good
Kia pai mai rā
Oh, make it good
Taiāwhio ana i te ao hurihuri mō āke tonu e
Circling round and round forever
Atu i konei, he aha te aha
From here on out, wherever that leads to

Noho atu ki te hunga nā rātou koe i poipoi
Spend time with the people who nurtured you
Ko te ao hurihuri tēnei e huri ana
The word will continue to turn
E aua!
I donā€™t know
Kohore ana pea aku mata
Maybe Iā€™m just blurry-eyed
Kohore ana pea aku mata (mata)
Maybe Iā€™m just blurry-eyed

Is this the Maori language??? What a beautiful language!!!!!! And good of Lorde to appreciate native cultures and actually help raise funds for the causes she says she cares about. Somehow, this version is even more serene than the English one

As a young maori on the journey to reconnecting with my reo, this song and the whole te reo EP came at the perfect time. I've been playing the original of this song on repeat since its release and the reo version is absolutely gorgeous with a whole new meaning. Nga mihi nui for this beautiful piece!

I like to listen to Filipino and Japanese songs and I like how Maori sounds familiar and nostalgic because of some similarities in these languages. This is wonderful

Music is one of the most basic things in life. Music is what teaches us.

People are really in these comments saying that they don't know what she's saying, when there's lyrics in both Te Reo Maori and in English... Are y'all okay?

Maybe most of the people who have been listening to this song don't understand what it means but we don't need too understand the lyrics to recognize the telnet and how much is the song so meaningful šŸ˜

"Aku mata" also has the same meaning as "my eyes" in Malay & Indonesian :)

I never really listened to her music... I never liked Royals, and after so much fuss about it I avoided listening to Lorde's music. But then I heard this song in Maori, and I can't take it off my head! And now I love her! :D

My heart goes out to her because some of our own people r embarrassed about there culture not there fault of their own da way people were port up language was taken from them. She really makes me appreciate my culture I hope people support her love this Maori version she's got a beutifull voice she sang this with a lot mana from a Aitutaki fan šŸ’ÆāœŒ

This is so beautiful. You don't have to understand what's being sung to feel the emotion behind it
