To reiterate, never guess on names. So far you have had only one name guess and luckily that was incorrect so you have not had a fate solved by guessing.
You need to find the clues that let you tell who is who. They are sometimes very subtle and may be off in the corner of a memory so you need to study all the memories looking for clues.
Each memory tells you who was there. It is sometimes helpful to find the people within the memory. When focusing on a single person don't forget bookmarking but sometimes the vital clue may be in a memory before or after a scene they were in, like the way you were given the name Nick after he died
It can be helpful to keep written notes of the clues you find in each memory as the game does not give you much of a way to do that other than being able to note someone's job. The difficulty is that you are usually taking notes based on a face so it is helpful to come up with nicknames for people to associate with how they look. Like the one who shot Hok-Seng Lau is beanie boy

Yeah of course there's no time limit, the storm coming right after you see your last memory is just for drama :D Remember that the translator was in the boats kidnapping the Formosan royalty with Nichols, which makes it pretty clear how the captain got a "confession" from Hok-Seng Lau ๐ Time to go through the memories and really look at everything! There are a couple that have way more info than you would think at first glance.
