Wonderful to see the progression of Bessel's understanding of the consequences of over-active stress responses due to traumatic experiences. Great stuff and excellent interview by Inside Serene. It is such a shame that trauma is so often avoided as a subject of sharing in 12-step groups, but, since most addicts/alcoholics are trauma survivors, it is little wonder that they run from any mention of the subject, lest they are triggered into a reliving flashback. Along with Bessel's wonderful book, I recommend Pete Walker's "Complex PTSD". Best wishes to one and all that know we are not alone and nolonger need endure trauma. God bless us, one and all!

Always a fan of Bessel, who I met in 1997 in MI. PTSD is a condition resulting from exposure (s) to near death circumstances and is easily triggered by later circumstances resembling those in the near death surround. I think of CPTSD as a similar response to early childhood exposure to near death, being "scared to death", let alone over and over again. Our core limbic or "survival" brain has one job, keeping us and our species alive. Thus, the "body" must remember to survive, "keeps the score". Many thanks to Bessel, a big fan of EMDR in 1997, which many of us understand as a form of self-hypnosis.
