this video is about Doug walker / nostalgia critic's mad max parody movie. I've talked about his version of the wall, the movie to boldly flee, kickassia and probably some other one. so how is this going to compare?

Pinely from the future here, this is probably one of my least favourite videos I've made! It was my first facecam vid so obviously it took me a bit to get into it, but I also think my critiques are not on the level I'd like them to be. I'd delete the video but I can't because it's sponsored, but I guess this is at the very least a look into the start of me getting used to this format. Enjoy?

Doug has this problem where he hates when concepts are spoon fed to him, but also critiques movies when they don’t explain things explicitly. I noticed it after a while, after watching the movies he reviewed. He hates being treated like a child, but he refuses to think any deeper about what he consumes.

The fact that a "movie reviewer" doesn't understand that rotten tomatoes is a binary aggregate of whether the reviewer said it was good or not. It's not saying that Fury Road is a 97% amazing movie, it means that 97% of all reviewers walked out of the theaters saying it's, at least, "good".

Doug Walker's comedy is stuck in an era when just having a show on the internet was novel enough that the quality of the content wasn't all that important. Every video reminds me of YouTube circa 2009.

Most of the nostalgia critic movie scenes in this film look like the bowling screen after I get a strike

very tired of people thinking that having an attraction to an actor just stops our brains from being able to critique a work

His review is giving me major Nostaglia "I'm Not Like Most Girls" Critic energy.

I recall hearing that the Tom Hardy fangirls where a weird passive aggressive jab at his former colleague Lindsay Ellis. Apparently Doug frequently made fun of the fact that she's into Hardy on their personal Facebooks back when they still worked together - so this seems to be an evolution of that weird grudge Doug had

Roger Ebert (whom, ironically, Doug Walker idolizes) once said “One rule of comedy is that it’s hard to be funny when it’s obvious you’re trying to be funny. Great comedies take their premises seriously and the laughs flow naturally.” And that right there is one of the problems with Doug. He favors cheap humor over actual, valid criticism.

it's really wild to me that doug claims to be a feminist but he consistently can only depict women enjoying films as "fangirls" and routinely only seems to understand women as having some weird sexual interest in the actors instead of just. enjoying the film for being good. he basically made this fangirl character to constantly mock women for enjoying things

Considering the fact that Doug Walker hates that Cat in the Hat movie, the comparison works as a great criticism-- he dislikes that movie yet can't seem to figure out he's doing the same thing. The man has no self awareness as a creator. Edit: spelling

That whole “We can’t admit we’re physically attracted to Tom Hardy because feminism!” bit confused me. What about being a feminist means you can’t just find another person (sexually) attractive based on how they look?

Even back when I was a nostalgia critic fan I just couldn’t with the movies.

You know, Doug has been doing youtube for years when he made this. The man has been engaging with movies for almost 2 decades, seems to have a genuine passion for the medium and made hundreds of videos. How do all of his movies look like this?

Doug seems to really struggle with subtext and allegory. I suspect that's why his media criticism is often so surface level. This is pretty apparent when he talks about science fiction.

So what's really funny to me while watching this is your reaction to all the characters. I used to watch his videos religiously, and the character that aren't direct characters from the mad max movie are all reoccurring characters in the nostalgia critic universe. I don't think I realized how much he relied on people knowing all his characters until now. Of course you don't know who they are, literally all of them were characters from other reviews that evolved into they're own thing, and he just expects you to know that and explains nothing. This is very fascinating to me. Since I stopped watching his work, and realized how awful he and his work actually is, I've been very cathartic and fascinating to watch other people talk about him, esp people who haven't watched most of his work.

The fruit shapes moment i think dude is talking about trix cereal and on how they used to be shaped as fruits, but now they are all ball shapes, and that maybe they're still fruit shaped but we can't see it anymore because we're not kids anymore, cause trix are for kids. Deep shit

It's weird how NC assumes this is just a guy's movie or something with jokes like "You Sure You Have A penis?" And that girls only watched for Tom Hardy is just such a dated take either way. But the movie has A lot of feminist takes. There is also a lot of story just in what people are doing and what they want. The villain and his "children", water, and much more.

The Nostalgia Critic and people like him are the reason movies have endless insufferable exposition dumps.
