Book reader here. The ending in the book sprints just as hard to the end. The movie actually did a good job of slowing down the end that was in the book. The casting was incredible here; the story is extremely faithful to the book; I had a great time all around with it. I so hope Suzanne Collins writes another in this world.

I actually think the opposite, i love the last 30-45 minutes. The cabin scene was incredible, you feel exactly what lucy gray was feeling which was "i have no clue what you're thinking, but i know im gonna end up dead soon if i dont escape". Him holding the gun while going "you wont tell anyone right?" Was chilling.
But i 100% agree, should have been a show. Probably not even a mini series, the film is long enough for 5 30 minute episodes, but parts still felt rushed. 10 episodes easily.

Agree with a lot except for Rachel and Lucy Grey and the third act. She is a much more ambiguous character and very different than Katniss, she is a performer and you never know how faithful she is and what is real. I think Rachel portrayed that stellar as I could literally see these conflicting emotions (love and mistrust, terrified and reassuring) before she said the lines that telled them.

I’m really glad Jeremy brought up the reason WHY some movies have bad CG; underpaid and overworked VFX artists with impossible deadlines and execs being satisfied with the barest bones possible shots to be released in the movie is a LARGE reason why CG in movies has decreased in quality over the years.
Most of the time people usually blame the directors and VFX artists for making “shitty CGI” and don’t understand the real reasons behind why things turn out the way they do in movies

No I think this movie is perfect and fits all the scenes to be exactly what was in the book. It’s Snow’s perspective so yes he’s going to see things differently than it might have actually happened. But Lucy is accurate to the way she was written. And she’s not forgettable once you see what she did to Snow but she also was basically written out of their history so she’s not going to be written to be some major character like Katniss who will forever live in the minds of others. She’ll be a character that you know and you know what parts she was involved in for creating a tyrannical ruler but she isn’t actually forgettable. Lucy Gray and Snow created the world Katniss grew up in so she’s just as impactful and important as any other character. And I think people should read the book before they complain about the songs because if they actually read the book they’d know she does break out in song a lot, she’s a performer, part of a band, she expresses herself through song. And it’s a way of showing how she manipulates too. Like a snake charmer, she uses her songs to charm the people she wants to use. She charmed snow and made him believe that she was in love with him. She charmed the capital to think she was a girl in need. She’s smart and cunning and it shows through her songs. Much like Snow uses words to manipulate and gets close to people only to stab them in the back later on. “Nothing You Can Take From Me” was purposely sung at the reaping, the whole song should have been sang as it happened in the book but it was her act of defiance and her first attempt to manipulate the way people saw her. Just read the book.

I'm sad to hear that Lucy Gray's character wasn't as standout as it could have been. (From the book) I did enjoy how you understood EXACTLY how she was using her singing to say ALL THE THINGS about the capital...without "saying" them. She was stubborn like Katniss but I feel character wise, they are very different. Her character was almost opposite to Katniss and I feel that the creative team might have been scared to go in that direction when Jennifer's Katniss was so well received. Truly, it's Snow's story so I'm glad that actor was on his game but with Lucy Gray being so foundational to his roots/motivations, it would have been nice to have both be strong characters.

I am sorry that Charles White did not reprise his role as district 8 hospital helper.
