This song is so complex if you have the context of her past work. She references different songs in literally each line. My favorite is "Remember looking at this room, we loved it cause of the light." She wrote a whole album about this man she's singing about called "Lover" and on the final track she compares his love to daylight- warm, comforting, soft and gentle. It just hits you right in the heart to hear that now she's sitting in the dark.

I love this song for so many reasons, especially the bridge. It's different from so many of her other breakup songs because this relationship ends because the people in it grew apart slowly over time, rather than having something sudden and catastrophic happen. I love the way that the background vocals on the line, "do something babe, say something" sound almost like shouting. It's so effective, because the lead vocals for that line just sound quieter and sadder, but in the echo you can hear so much desperation. Ugh it's just such a masterpiece.
