Thereās still so much to his success. Yes his videos were unique and unable to be copied, but they also were perfect for YouTube algorithm. Youāre brought up to speed immediately, donāt have to have seen another one before. But the biggest thing is these are long videos that the payoff only comes at the end. Does he beat the game? Does he die right before? He edits perfectly too, thereās tension, but thereās also breathing room, thereās moments and connections with his friends, and thereās also his incredible skill at the game that makes it that more interesting. He places moments paced perfectly to give multiple payoffs throughout the video. Itās the perfect video for YouTube to promote. Iād be so curious to see what his retention graph looks like. Has to be in the 80s and 30+ minutes of watch time.
Iāve been following him since early 2020 and blown away at how scientific it all has been.
Thereās even things like his avatar being a lime green that immediately stands out to all the other avatars. Just genius.

It's nuts how much of a power move that was for Dream to show his face but at the same time brings more people together because of that connection of knowing the person behind the mask so to speak. It's tough leaning into what makes you and your story different, but once we find that "purple cow, " life can get really interesting!

The best way I would describe the Dream SMP is āa perfect disaster.ā The SMP was never made to be what it is today. It started off as just a server for Dream to casually play vanilla minecraft with his closest friends, George and Sapnap. It was until he invited a creator by the name of TommyInnit to the server that things took off. Tommy would destroy things, troll people, and overall add character to the server. As things progressed a story line was created and this is where the Dream SMP went main stream. Rivalries, friendships, adventures, the list goes on. With a story in place, it gave viewers the opportunity to feel like they were apart of something or as if they are watching an actual tv show. It got to the point that if you were on twitch streaming the dream smp, you as a creator now have a career thanks to just being involved in the server.

The Dream SMP (Survival Multiplayer), was a closed invite only Minecraft server that was originally just a regular Minecraft server for Dream and his friends. Eventually after a few more streamers were added, it began to be dramatized. The members of this server would create a loose script, with large plot points planned out, and details in the middle were improv. This was inspired by the Yogscast Shadow of Israphel, and many also compared this to professional wrestling, with overarching stories, characters, and everyone knowing it was fake. One thing that made this successful for the streamers, is that each streamer would give a different POV of the larger events happening on the SMP, and have their own solo stories as well (like comics). Additionally, members of the dream SMP typically did not stream at the same time, and when one ended, the others started streaming. Overall, it combined many different story techniques, applied it to the Minecraft world, and shared their audience to lift everyone up. This also happened during the pandemic which coincided with a large boom for twitch.
