I'm just leaving this comment here. So that a month, a year, or a decade down the line if someone likes or comments on this thread, I can relive this song. Timeless..

For anyone who may be interested, the album art is based on the Bronze Head of Augustus excavated in 1910 from the archaeological site of Meroe City in what is now Sudan (Africa). Meroe City was the capital of the Meroitic Kingdom that occupied the territory of modern Sudan c.300 BCE - 350 CE (around 2000 years ago). The head is a representation of Augustus (Rome's first emperor reigned 27 BCE - 14 CE) and is generally thought to have belonged to a complete statue set up in southern Egypt (Aswan). At this time (the late 1st century BCE), Egypt had just been annexed by the Roman Empire who, in the 20s BCE, made moves to expand into the Meroitic Kingdom south of Egypt. Evidently, this was not to the liking of the Meroitic people who, so the story goes (Pliny the Elder, Strabo, Dio Cassius - all classical sources), promptly invaded Aswan, tore the statue down, and took the bronze head back to their capital (Meroe). Around 1900 years later it was excavated by the then professor of Egyptology at Liverpool University (John Garstang, UK) and, shortly afterwards, acquired by the British Museum where it is now on display. It is a spectacular example of Early Roman bronze sculpture and an interesting case study for considering Rome's interactions with Africa beyond Egypt. Do go and see it, if you are in London: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/G_1911-0901-1

I can't put into words how this song makes me feel. It ranges from a nostalgic hope, to a romantic sadness. It's truly one of a kind, and I can't stop listening to it.

You know it's a good song when it's like 9 minutes long and you still can't help but replay it multiple times.

I was in my freshmen year in college, doing my very first assignment and this song just pops up in the autoplay. The song sent a chill down my spine so I stopped for a moment and just enjoy the music with my exhausted mind. For the whole semester I played the song everytime I'm doing my work at my place because of the pandemic. Some times later I just forgot about the song, only until today, I'm doing my final year report, as I'm graduating next month, the song just pops again in my autoplay. I took a deep breath, realizing nothing has change over the course of time, except that I don't have the enthusiasm as a freshmen anymore, and the pandemic slowly dies down. Time do flies, it really does.

So much I love about this piece. - The fact that it's almost two songs due to the big change mid-song - The equally big change in the perspective of the song at that mid-song point going from he/she to she/he. Always perplexed and enchanted by the many possible meanings there. - The amazing quality of the recording - The amazing use of synths and effects - The spectacular composition where the balance between the keyboards, vocals, drums, etc all work together to complement each other perfectly throughout - The dynamics where it gets so silent in parts of the song before regaining speed and volume... just reminds me of a storm passing through with the accompanying intensity variations I could just go on and on. I think I heard a song by Electric Guest in a bar/restaurant a long time ago and Shazam'ed it and then ended up exploring all of their stuff. This is probably my absolute favorite piece they've done. I'd put this up side anything by Pink Floyd or anyone else in terms of composition, recording quality, and depth of lyrics. It's all so friggin good. Hope they get back together and find a way to recapture that magic time they had here. It was/is awesome.
