All of his songs in this special are humorous and brilliantly written because there’s always a moment where it’s raw and honest and gives us a glimpse of his inner world. Those are my favorite parts because they’re so emotionally loaded. The comedy that accompanies it makes those moments in the song all the more poignant: “I wanna be my dad! (I wanna be my dad in the mid 80s) My dad was an oblivious white guy. My dad was happier than I am.”

I like how he shows how stereotypes are bad without sounding racist.

I love what a mouthful the two lines "Some people really gotta fight to survive, and some people are white guys in 1985" and yet he finds a way to perfectly sync it to the song. brilliant.

For whatever reason i just have this picture in my head of Bo's dad being like "hey, do me a favor and don't write any songs about me okay?" And bo just being like "yeah yeah of course!" And then immediately turning around and thinking "well now I HAVE to make sure his name is put into a song"

That E2 at 0:26 is really clear and resonant, true baritone.

This is probably my favourite of Bo's song. Not cynical or deprecating, it's funky and fun.
