Guide to the Most Uncomfortable Way to Travel in India

If you're travelling to India on a budget, this is the cheapest way to get around! You'll find shared rickshaws all over the country at extremely cheap prices. But remember, the less you pay, the less comfortable your ride! In this video, I'll show you exactly how to catch a shared rickshaw in a remote part of India.

In India, a shared rickshaw typically refers to a cycle rickshaw or motorized rickshaw (tuk-tuk) that is used for public transportation in urban and semi-urban areas They are a common mode of transport for short distances.

The term "shared" indicates that multiple passengers can use the same rickshaw for their commute. This is a cost-effective way of transportation for short distances, as passengers share the fare, making it more affordable for each individual. Shared rickshaws are commonly found in crowded marketplaces, busy city streets, and areas where narrow roads make it difficult for larger vehicles to operate efficiently.

It's worth noting that their use and popularity can vary from one region to another, and some cities may have regulations or restrictions on their operation.

Additionally, in recent years, there has been increased interest in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options: electronic and cycle rickshaws align with these goals.

I travelled with Karl for a few days and he is just as friendly as you see in these videos. People were always coming up to him for selfies etc and he was friendly and welcoming to them all. Very nice man and, I hope, my friend

My wife is also Indian (from AP). Even though she's lived in the UK for 10 years, when we went there earlier this year, she went back into some haggling mode I'd never seen her in before, refusing auto drivers over paying an extra 10₹

I studied in Nagpur. Must say people around that region are very friendly and truly nice people. They will go beyond their means to help and there is a sense of community! Vidharbha rocks!

Your videos bring back so many memories! Close friends of mine live in Pune and I've been to India several times. During my first trip I stayed at a hotel near Goregaon Station in Mumbai. I took the public train from the city centre after a great day exploring and arrived at the station during rush hour in the evening. There were so many people waiting to get a rickshaw and I guess I looked a bit lost. Suddenly a rickshaw just stopped in front of me and the guys (passengers) just told me to get on. They dropped me right in front of my hotel and refused to take my share of the fare. Since then I travelled around India for several times, South to North and although I experienced a few dodgy situations, I really look forward to my next India trip. Such a lovely country and people.

Karl, you are absolutely amazing! This was captivated throughout. Your insights into the less glamorous side of travel are both eye-opening and informative. Interestingly, I recently attended a retreat hosted by Lisa Haisha, a renowned life coach, and she couldn't stop raving about your work. She specifically mentioned your video, highlighting how exceptional you are at what you do. Keep up the fantastic work, Karl! Your content is a breath of fresh air and a valuable resource for travelers.
