What are Government-run hotels like in India? I stayed at one to find out. It's $32 a night and next to a meteorite impact!

The hotel is MTDC Resort Lonar (महाराष्ट्र पर्यटन विकास महामंडळ रिसॉर्ट) goo.gl/maps/Ef43Fw2CDrUTLvou6?entry=yt at Lonar Lake, Maharashtra, India.

Lonar Lake, located in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, India, is a fascinating natural marvel that captivates visitors with its unique characteristics. This saline soda lake, formed around 50,000 years ago due to a meteorite impact, is the world's third-largest crater lake.

Its enchanting emerald-green waters, nestled within the confines of a stunning impact crater, are surrounded by dense vegetation, lending an air of serenity to the area. The lake's saline nature has also created a microcosm of diverse flora and fauna, making it an ecological hotspot and attracting researchers and nature enthusiasts alike.

How's your experience in Govt. hotels been? If there are any you'd recommend, drop them below. Watch my full trek down to this incredible and mysterious crater https://youtu.be/5rrnsnbcC0k. The bed with the stained sheets and all is inexcusable. It’s an instant turn-off and deal-breaker, even at this ultra-cheap price. At least I would never stay.

Kia ora from New Zealand! A few years ago we did a 3 month tour of India and decided on the spur of the moment to try a government hotel in Aurangabad. Despite good reviews and good first impressions (nice staff), the hotel was really bad. It was very dirty overall, needed lots of maintenance, had old furniture which was falling apart, and was not secure. We ended up leaving at 1.30am as the beds turned out to be riddled with bed bugs, and the night manager could not, or would not give us another room. We walked 2 doors down to another hotel which was slightly cheaper but the experience was 10 times better. That was the one and only time we used a government hotel in India. We loved India overall and are really looking forward to returning one day!

You guys are so nice. You might evaluate a hotel as decent guests. But there’s another side to it. What hotels must do. Their part. As long as there’s a dead bug in toilet, stains on the bed sheets, dust on the floor etc., it means they are not doing their part. It’s not related to how big the hotel is or how many stars they have. Rooms that are about to go must be checked. It must be ready to give to the guest. It MUST be clean. No wifi? That’s fine. If they say they have wifi but they actually don’t, they don’t do their part. If they say the room is ready but it looks like that, they don’t do their part. White sheets are popular in hotel businesses. The reason is you can bleach them, it’s easier to get rid of nasty stains. If the stain doesn’t go, you better get rid of those sheets. Colored ones are harder to deal with. Those sheets are white. There is simply no realistic excuse for the stains. These are not advanced approaches. Hotel Business A 101.

For a bungalow that's not very expensive but there's no hot water or wi-fi. I like how peaceful and quiet it is. If someone is afraid of India thinking it's too busy or chaotic, this looks like a perfect destination.

As a housekeeper the dirty stained bedding made my stomach queasy. The bathroom did look very clean . Bugs sometimes fly in after clearing so that nothing a flush wouldn’t solve . The tea looked delicious. Those dogs were the hi light for me , they were so adorable. Thanks for sharing

$ 32 is little bit expensive compared to other private hotels (not scammer hotels) who charge same fee with more amenities.

I would be tempted to remove the stained sheets and purchase new ones. Still would be a decent price. I guess the government hotel doesn't have all the amenities of other hotels. Cute dog! 😊

How is it cheaper at a water front hotel in Baja California with a pool, better maintained yard with stuff to do? I’m not really familiar with the prices in India, seems a bit weird.

I’ve stayed in a Govt Hotel Dorm room in Ujjain for just 200 rupees! That was hell of cheap and surprisingly quite clean. Location was also very convenient to reach.

Honestly speaking 32$ dollars is still too much in my opinion not cheap, considering the cleanance of the room

I am from the Andaman Islands and we have stayed in government hotels since childhood. So, when the opportunity came, I made sure to take my gora/American husband to these hotels. The hotels are all around the islands. Some with beautiful ocean views! Can't wait to go back to my Islands!
