-------------------------------

Tame Impala’s entire discography is a record of Kevin Parker’s personal journey through time. Guiding us through his self-reflection on Innerspeaker. Isolation within Lonerism. And the flood of emotional heartbreak in Currents. Musically they’ve all advanced with him. Once upon a time, an electric guitar sat at the forefront of the Tame Impala sound. Parker’s sonic-explorations have since progressed towards gleaming synths and a wider audience appeal.

Four years after Currents and a number of collaborations, fans new and old were eager to hear more from the perfectionist-producer. The first track he would eventually return with seemed like a cheeky memo to fans, “Patience” (Patience Audio). The tune would act as a buffer while we waited one more year for his fourth studio release, The Slow Rush. Where nearly every track dives deep into the oceans of time. Past, present and future. The title itself notes time’s paradoxical nature: at times moving slow -- seemingly never ending and at others, rushing past us in the blink of an eye. But while The Slow Rush delves into the concept of time, it’s truly about how we accept the changes that come with the passing of time.

He really used that 'one more year' pun

It's about over-romanticizing the past and also the opposite. Like, being consumed with regret and what you should have done differently. Lost in Yesterday.

This breakdown really add a whole other level of complexity to the album. Seriously thank you, especially for me where i can relate so much right now as a lost graduating college student.

This is Kevin's best record. Sorry not sorry. On a surface level, it seems minimalistic, but actually it' is incredibly detailed. The more you listen the more you will uncover. It is easily his most consistent album, too. Not to mention the drumming and production on this record is his finest. Absolutely beautiful record, start to finish.

Just wow, you explained to me why I fell in love with Tame Impala 6 years ago... RELATABILITY. You also explained to me how even though Tame Impala is evolving it’s still relatable as ever. Thank you 🤘🤘

tame impala is what happens when an artist has full creative control of their art and the freedom to explore all aspects of their craft. an artist in its purest form.

My only hope for Kevin as that he circles back to using the guitar as a primary ingredient in his music. He can use synth pedals and other effects to apply all he has learned. You’d be amazed how wild and funky you can make an electric guitar sound. Kev knows this too. Think that F O N K Y riff at the end of Let it Happen. I miss that.
