Reason for Hope Beyond Materialism | How can we ease the trauma that we see all over the world?

A question to Rupert from the Oxford Psychedelic Society; March, 2022. Hosted by Ali-Reza Omidvar.
   / @oxfordpsychedelicsociety

You mentioned Terence McKenna. He said about the current situation of our society, and about our point in history as a whole, that we are in a state of transition. He compared it to the process of birth, which you mentioned in your talk [    • Expanding Consciousness with Psychede...   ]. So if you as humanity are in the birth canal, how can we ease the pains and traumas that we see all over the world? And what can we do to not lose faith that there is something beyond?

Rupert nailed this. Been listening to him for years and it’s still mind numbing to me how many people are unaware of him.

Society has devolved from worshipping the cosmic stars to movie stars, from attacking false prophets to embracing false profits. As a country becomes morally bankrupt there is an inner grass roots revolution were people slowly remember their innate divine nature and adopt new definitions. Instead of being driven by greed and the archaic propaganda of There is never enough it will be slowly replaced with an Attitude of Gratitude: Abundance is having what you need when you need it. In essence people will eventually see just how shallow Capitalism is. Sure things can temporarily make you happy but it can’t provide lasting inner peace. As the Cult of Science is slowly forced to accept that Consciousness is the underlying basis of reality (I.e. By all accounts The Placebo Effect should never be possible) people’s belief systems will change and society will start to become holistic where relationships are valued more then things. It is no longer if but when the Golden Rule replaces the Iron Rule.

“British psychiatrist and former Oxford English professor Iain McGilchrist writes about, in his latest masterpiece,"The Matter With Things," what he believes is the single greatest problem facing humanity today. What do you think he believes it is? Worldwide increase in authoritarian, repressive, violent regimes? no. Climate change? no Famine, pestilence, poverty, potential nuclear destruction? no Materialism. ..... Say wuh?” Don Salmon

We'll muddle onward and upward, one lifetime, important as it is, is one pearl on an infinite string of pearls.

The human species is a species of primates that is very aggressive towards individuals that cause displeasure to the majority of the group. The neurochemical processes that motivate aggressive behaviors are biological. When resources are scarce, humans can exterminate rival groups. Several neurological variations exist among humans. Psychopaths are the most dangerous. When neurotypicals perceive that they are facing a period of risk (shortage of resources, loss of group identity, etc.), they choose from among their ranks the leader who shows psychopathic characteristics. This will not be fixed within the spiritual plane.

Feeling a connection is just that, a feeling. However, feelings create our sense of reality. It is this reality that we live, unless/until we accept experience into this sense of reality, resulting in a new reality. Hope is a projection of desire, taking us away from current dissatisfaction. It is one of the emotions nourished by marketing, whether of products and services, politics, religion…etc. Although, that of products and services tends to be set in a shorter time-frame. Encouraging people to latch on to hope can be very useful for maintaining an exploitative regime in the present, as it helps to disengage people from dealing with and trying to change their current situation. Heaven/Paradise is a good example. You just need to get through this life, whatever the pain, do what is expected of you, i.e., what God’s agent tells you to do, to be guaranteed a place in Heaven/Paradise. Imagining a better future and working towards it doesn’t need hope but it does need enough pleasure in the present, if hope does not exist; willingness to drop out of existence would also bring about systematic change as the cooperative exploitation of our current system could not function without the willingness to be exploited. I find it fascinating that so many people choose to suffer, rather than remove themselves from living; perhaps, again, this has to do with hope and the after-life, combined, for some, with an inflated sense of self-worth.
