Please note, not all therapy works for everyone. This is an educational video explaining what it is and how it works. If you find this helpful, please share this shorts! We can create a series on this if there is enough request on it. As always, consult a mental health professional to find the best therapy for you.

DBT has absolutely helped me! I was taking DBT before i had been diagnosed with BPD, partly because my psychologist led a group and recognized that i had those traits, even if i didnāt yet have an accurate diagnosis. These skills are more helpful than anything when I start getting disregulated.

This was what I was looking for several years ago. Unfortunately very few therapists use it, (where I live), and the ones that do, are not taking new patients. I will look into what I can do on my own, as I was recently overwhelmed by a new āfriendshipā. Had to call it off, as I just couldnāt deal with the guilt, and walking on eggshells again. I donāt think I was wrong to end it, I just know I handled it all very poorly. At least I noticed the pattern this time, and didnāt let it go on longer. š

Iām not sure about everyone else, but when I did dbt, I had such a bad experience, I was blamed, and shamed for relapses, and also whenever their āskillsā didnāt work. I was told by my therapist āitās like weāre in a rowboat going down a river, and Iām the only one rowingā. It was so deeply hurtful, I was trying so hard for so long to get better but she basically told me that Iām actively trying to not get better. I came out of dbt worse than I went in, and I went in in an awful state. And they just didnāt care about my problems, my therapist forgot massive details I told her. And on my final session, she basically shamed me and guilt tripped me for leaving

DBT is not only used for over-emotional people. On the opposite end, after childhood abuse, my body shut down in processing physical and emotional pain so i can cope with daily life (kind of defense mechanism). After growing up, I still have trouble "feeling" anything, like flat line mood 24/7 (not depress) just everything is mehh, neither happy nor sad and physically lack awareness. My counsellor worked with me using DBT to get in touch with my emotions and physical awareness.
