Headaches are the 3rd leading causes of disability worldwide, affecting about 4.1% of the population. Cervicogenic headache is one of the most common forms of headaches and often misdiagnosed. This headache is caused by the top 3 joints in your cervical spine (neck) interacting with a brain structure, the trigeminal cervical nucleus. From this overlap, the joint, tissues or muscles that are irritated can refer pain up to your head, causing a headache.

There are many triggers for headaches. With the top 5 being, neck pain, tiredness, restless sleep temperature mean and odors.

There are 3 main kinds of headaches:
Cervicogenic Headache- Top or back of head, gradual onset, no nausea, light/sound sensitivity and flexing the neck often increases symptoms

Migraine Headache- Front or anterior of head, sudden onset, pulsating feeling, with or with our aura and often has nausea, vomiting, light/sounds sensitivity

Tension Headache- bilateral (both sides), mild to moderate intensity, tightening feeling, usually waxes or wanes, improved with physical activity and may have light or sound sensitivity, but not both Fortunately there are a lot of treatments that you can do by yourself that don't involve taking any medication.

We cover the best stretches to help treat the area that is causing your headache as well as some posture modifications to make. We also cover some sleeping strategies to help reduce the triggers we talked about previously.
