How to Fix a Pinched Nerve in the Neck | Dr. Jon Saunders, Newmarket Chiropractor

A pinched nerve in the neck, or cervical radiculopathy, can be very painful and debilitating. In this video, Dr. Jon Saunders will show you how to get rid of pinched nerve in your neck at home. There will be 6 stretches shown to help give you some relief. The first 3 will be more general and focus on decompression or traction of your neck and the next 3 will be more specific to select nerve roots, using nerve flossing techniques.

The main causes of a pinched nerve in the neck are a disc bulge or herniation, degenerative disc disease, bones spurs (osteophytes), and tight neck muscles. Poor postural patterns like forward head posture or a loss of normal curve in the neck can also contribute to a pinched nerve in the neck. It happens most often in your 40's and usually only involves one arm. Signs and symptoms are pain/tingling/numbness in the neck, arm, hand, between shoulder blades and sometimes headaches. Numbness and tingling and hand and arm weakness can also occur.

Improvement usually takes between 4-6 months, but in some cases much longer, up to 24+ months. The good news, most will recover without needing surgery.

Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or which of my 6 stretches for a pinched neck nerve worked best fro you.

That radial nerve flossing was revelatory! I had no idea thatā€™s where my pain was coming from until you showed the hand chart. My thumb has been killing me, along with my neck, shoulder, all down my arm and my scapula. Thank you!

I am beyond appreciative to you for this video and info. I was in so much pain from a pinched nerve in my neck due to osteophytes and bone spurs with herniated disks I was about to just give up on life. I coul not sit , stand , sleep walk or anything without my neck, spine, shoulder and arm to the elbow feeling like hot lava and electrical shocks running through it non stop. I really was ready to go t sleep and never wake up. You saved my life literally by giving me some relief . The pain is still there but It is less intense and manageable . I thank you SO much you for this help you have no idea what it has meant to me
