Ricco lost two more tail feathers from molting, he looks so adorable. He’s still wanting lots of naps and is a bit cranky, but hopefully he will be back to himself soon. Ricco is molting and lost his two long tail feathers. When birds molt they will typically shed the same two feathers on each side in a day or so to keep balance.

Ricco’s diet includes a variety of foods such as pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, as well as other healthy foods. Nuts and seeds are given as treats and are limited.

Molting at it’s finest 🪶
Most birds molt once a year, however some may twice a year. This can last anywhere from a month to a couple of months depending how big of a molt. Ricco just started his in June and will most likely go well into September.

I’ve been molting and this causes me to be a big baby, my human mom takes extra care of me. She makes sure I have a nutritional healthy diet daily to help with my new growing feathers, gives me baths, takes me outside for fresh air and sunlight which also helps with my molt. I also get plenty of sleep and naps throughout the day ❤️
