Cicadas, caterpillars and mosquitos, oh my! Yes, I really braved the elements for this one! Just kidding-but there were some cicadas flying around and a few caterpillars did try to hitch a ride on my camera bag! This was my first time filming outdoors this season and it did not disappoint. There is something so energizing about being outside in nature!

I hope you enjoy this new 25-minute cycling class, brought to you from the woods in Wisconsin!

Hi All! You might have noticed that I didn't post a new ride this morning. My husband and I just got back from the Dominican Republic (we were celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary!) and there was a technology glitch with the ride I was going to post. Not to worry though - next week's ride is going to be extra special and will have a surprise element that I'm REALLY excited about! Thanks for riding with me!

Hello Friends!

Let’s talk about JUMPS for a minute. They seem like they should be so simple but many of us struggle to feel comfortable doing them when we are new to indoor cycling. Throughout my years of teaching classes, I have seen some pretty interesting techniques. However, there are some tips and strategies to keep in mind in order to do safe and efficient jumps on a stationary bike.

1. Always jump with resistance!

Moderate to heavy resistance is needed to make sure you come up out of the saddle in a safe and controlled manner. This was the reason I struggled with jumps when I first started taking spin classes (a long time ago!). More resistance is going to make it easier, trust me!

2. Keep your core engaged.

Strength comes from your legs and control comes from your core. You should never be using your arms to pull yourself up out of the saddle.

3. Alternate your leading leg with each jump.

The easiest way I know to do this is to stay up out of the saddle for an even count and sitting in the saddle for an odd count. For example: I lead with my right leg and stand for four counts, then sit for five counts. Then, my leading leg for the next jump will be my left leg. Not too bad, right?

4. Go at your own pace!

Especially if you are new: go slow until you feel comfortable and in control. Then you can work on speed.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like a few extra pointers. I absolutely love indoor cycling and want you to enjoy it as much as I do!

What happens when you leave your two-year old unsupervised for five minutes? This. This happens.

My almost-seven year old came to find me while I was putting away Christmas ornaments and said "Louis is doing something that will jeopardize your YouTube channel!" Firstly, I love this girl's vocabulary. It seems like she tries out new words (in the correct context) daily and it makes me so happy. Secondly, she was concerned about her brother's actions impacting my YouTube channel which was very thoughtful!

It turns out rubbing alcohol does a really good job removing dry erase markers so no permanent harm done! He also used the marker to decorate the side of the bike. I'm sure he just wanted to be a part of the fun. :) The bike needed to be wiped down anyway and the wall was also in need of some TLC. Let me know if I missed a spot when you take my next class! Before and after pictures for your viewing pleasure. :)
