The OGs of this channel may remember my good friends Tudor and Denis, who I went on a trip to France with (see video). Well, Tudor is participating in the The Tour 21 event this year, which is cycling’s most grueling challenge: completing the Tour de France route – more than 3,400km in just 21 days. The purpose is to raise £1m for Cure Leukaemia, the biggest charity in the UK that focuses on facilitating faster clinical trials and potentially life-saving treatments for blood cancer patients. Their experience will be covered by NBC Sports and they'll create a mini-documentary series that will be broadcasted across their channels. Very cool!

Had a lot of fun on Varun's new podcast @FitOneswithVarun! He uses a different format for these discussions. At some point he surprised me by putting pictures on the screen to see how I react to different foods, fitness influences, and books. It's a new idea that I think has a lot of potential. Someone reached out to me today to ask me what changes he can make in his daily life to live more sustainably (in light of the videos I've been working on). So I've sent him the PDF checklist I've made for my friends a few years ago that visually shows how to cut back on carbon emissions and energy consumption. But then I thought, wait, why don't I share this with everyone? It's still going to be a while until I post my videos but in the meantime this PDF can be useful to some people. A few notes about this document though:
1. I made it in 2018 and some of the numbers are already outdated
2. Some of the numbers are estimations or guesses I've made. However, most are reasonably accurate and based on data I found in the book Sustainable Energy Without The Hot Air by David MacKay, other books by Vaclav Smil, and calculations I've made based on data I've found online
3. The TL;DR format obviously does not allow for context. For example, in the section about diet there are cases in which an omnivorous diet has lower environmental impact than a vegan/vegetarian diet (the diets of a poor fisherman in the Mekong delta or a shepherd in the Carpathian mountains almost certainly have a lower carbon footprint than a vegan in Los Angeles). Packaging, transportation, and refrigeration can be several times more polluting than the food itself. On the other hand, the diet of the Los Angeles vegan may be more sustainable in the long term (since the human population is too large to subside on wild animals without driving them to extinction) and better suited for a renewable energy system (since it uses less land which can be used to establish solar parks or biofuel/tree plantations).
4. This checklist will probably be updated as I learn more. The diet section is the least reliable. In 2019 I've spent about 6 months reading life cycle analyses for pretty much all the foods we consume and based on the data I've compiled I will redo the diet section properly.
