The invitation for this coming month's calendar is a simple one; to meet your edge and soften.
Our yoga practice can be a place where we can explore the capacity to be in a place of strength, however strength does not have to be rigid, hard or inflexible. Strength can too often be thought of as the ability to push through no matter what, with fear of being seen to be vulnerable or according to the popular maxim 'no pain, no gain' are all ideas that perpetuate a state of being in control, defensiveness and protection.
The metaphor of having a 'strong back soft front' has been discussed and explored by many teachers, however the concept originated from Joan Halifax, an American Zen buddhist teacher. The notion of strong back is a fearlessness and courage that can emerge when one feels safe, strong and grounded, with a sense of belonging and purpose. This strong back can then allow for having a soft front, the ability to stay open to whatever may arise, even when those experiences may create discomfort, anger or fear. A soft front encourages us to open to life in all its myriad complexities, beauty, wonder and sadness, rather than shut down, numb or distract.
I hope that this months calendar can invite you into a space of exploring this for yourself on and off the mat, noticing how you can be strong and soft at the same time.

This coming months practice calendar is ‘Flow February’ which is all about the spine & back. In yoga, the spine encompasses the central energetic channel, also known as the ‘Sushumna Nadi’. This energetic channel begins at the base of the spine, flowing all the way through to the eyebrow centre and is said to be the wheel of life. Many of us know how challenging it can be to cope with any back/spine related issues and pain, so this calendar will support you to strengthen, mobilise & stabilise the spine, as well as increase energetic flow throughout the entire body.
There are 28 days of practice, with the weekdays focusing on asana classes, Saturday’s will alternate between Nadi Shodana pranayama (that directly affects the Sushumna channel) and a body scan (for deep rest & rejuvenation) and lastly, Sunday’s will be a Yin or Restorative practice.

The practice calendar will go live on the channel homepage for easy access on 31st January 🤍🤍🤍
