Hello SOC 119 Community.
Over the past few years we've allowed YouTube to automatically place ads in our videos wherever it seemed fit. Last night, our editor was reading through comments and saw someone complain about the amount of ads. After investigating, he quickly realized the commenter was correct and there were too many ads placed by YouTube.
We have reduced the ads from this semester, as well as the previous semester's live streams. We will continue to go through our video library to find more streams and highlight videos with an absurd number of ads and we will massively reduce them.
We sincerely apologize.
Our intention was not to run as many ads as possible.
We will do better moving forward with monitoring our ad placements.
If you see problems like this, do not hesitate to reach out via email (staff@soc119.org) to let us know.
~ Mod Team

Watch discussion between Trump and Harris supporters: https://youtu.be/171kb6MmmGQ?si=0A9Cv...
Since the 1990s, SOC 119 and World in Conversation (WinC) have been partnering to educate generations of students by creating “depoliticized zones” for learning, not by avoiding, but by stepping directly into the most pressing social issues of the day.
This October, World in Conversation hosted a discussion between students voting for Donald Trump and those voting for Kamala Harris.
World in Conversation trains students and professionals to facilitate effective collaboration, ensuring that every viewpoint holds a piece of the solution. WinC programming empowers those in conflict to actually join forces, break new ground, and create solutions together.

As you watch videos on our channel, keep in mind that what you’re watching is a narrow slice of what goes on in a university classroom that is focused on race, ancestry, culture, and all things controversial. In fact, it’s the largest race and culture class in the United States with nearly 800 students. You’ll likely have opinions one way or another regarding what you’re watching (hopefully, anyway), but you might only watch just one or maybe a few videos. There are 2,250 minutes in a single semester so it’s likely that something you wish had been discussed was addressed in another video.
No one SOC 119 class is ever repeated and, after over three decades teaching this course, this means just about every angle on a topic has been stated by Dr. Richards. However, if you find yourself disagreeing about something or, more importantly, if “Sam” really does miss an important point, let us know. He really is trying to be thoughtful and fair-minded.
