Thank you so much for helping me reach 100,000 subscribers! Next week is very busy filming-wise, so there wonāt be a video this weekend, but it genuinely means so much to me to have you all here, and I want to express how grateful I am for your continued support. Donāt worry, Iām not disappearing into the trees foreverā¦
Moving forward, Iām so excited to make more long-form videos. Iāll continue to do my weekly historical site Shorts, but I have also considered filming more content about my PhD and research interests ā specifically medieval literature! What do you think? Iād love to know what sort of content you are interested in seeing.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

So proud to have been selected as one of the History Extra 30 Under 30 List for 2024! I have been reading the BBC History Magazine since I was a child and seeing myself on the website was such a āfull circleā moment.
While I have your attention, this is probably also a good moment to update you all on what has been happening in my life. My hectic schedule this year has been in part due to work and in part due to applicationsā¦ I am delighted to announce that I will be beginning my AHRC-funded PhD in September, focusing on 11th century manuscript traditions. This funding will allow me to treat history as my full-time job, which is possibly the best news ever! Expect more videos, more castles and perhaps a few videos about the 100,000 word project Iām about to complete š

I know Iāve not been hugely present over the past couple of months, but Iām working impossibly long hours on a different project (more content to come from February onward). In the meantime, I wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a history-filled New Year. Thank you for your continued support xx
(PS: my cat is called Steve, and thereās nothing wrong with him. He just looks like that).

40,000 subscribers! Thank you all for being here. Itās so encouraging that people are this invested at such an early stage in my YouTube journey, when the quality and content is only going to get better. My first long(er) video is going live at 20:00 GMT this evening, and I hope you enjoy it.
Itās only six minutes long but itās a test of my software and abilities - Iām hoping to work my way up to thirty minutes and above over the next months!

30,000 followersā¦ I am lost for words. It seems like only a few weeks ago that I hit 10,000 (because it was). Thank you to everyone who has supported me at this early stage; the community being built here is one I am so proud to create content forā I always look forward to hearing your thoughts, experiences, and even disagreements in the comments.
As another update, I will begin uploading long-form content again in August. The castles are calling and I canāt wait to get started! š°

Thank you so much for 10k followers! After having had quite a slow start on TikTok, seeing this type of growth is incredible and has got me thinking about the direction I want to take this channel in.
Iām hearing your requests for more long-form content, and while Iām practicing my video editing skills, theyāre not quite there yet. If itās over ten minutes, it has to be good! For my Shorts, I have a list of destinations and topics I want to cover, but I am definitely still taking suggestions.
Again, thank you for supporting me! These videos are a labour of love (aka, a very time-consuming hobby), and your comments and interactions make it all worthwhile.

Tune in for the best of pre-modern English history, broken down into 60 second micro-documentaries.
I am Charlotte Bowyer, a historian of the āexploring side streetsā and āforgotten buildingsā variety. Join me, as I spend my weekends (and most of my paycheque) exposing the remarkable history of South-Western England. My interests range from Roman Britain to Shakespeare, but my speciality is medieval studies: specifically, the history and language of the Anglo-Saxons.
