17 years ago today, I thought my life was over.

I was riding around with a few of my friends to make a drug deal and had a busted headlight that I didn’t fix because I was so addicted to painkillers and selling drugs.

The cops pulled me over and my heart sank into the pit of my stomach because I was so scared of what was to come.

They searched the car and found everything. The money. The drugs. The scale. I was arrested that night and charged with a felony (possession with intent to distribute marijuana)

I went to court several months later and on October 21, 2008 I started a 90 day jail sentence that would change my life forever. Behind bars, I met my cellmate who introduced me to fitness and it literally saved my life from the depths of addiction.

Since then, the felony has come off my record and my life personally and professionally has completely transformed.

I share this to give people hope that are in their ā€œdarkest hourā€ right now.

The light will come. Don’t give up on yourself. Keep moving forward.

Your life will drastically change when you:

1. Stop feeling sorry for yourself
2. Make the next right move
3. Focus on the quality of your relationships and not quantity
4. Get strong
5. Practice self compassion with accountability
6. Accept that life will be hard sometimes
7. Listen to the adversity advantage podcast :)

Your failures don't just define you.

It's how you respond to them that counts.

Every day you have a new opportunity to change.

Fitness is the ONE THING that if you don’t keep up with it, it can negatively impact other areas of your life.

But if you’re physically fit...what a difference it can make in those areas!

I’ve been at the gym probably a dozen times when Arnold Schwarzenegger is there. We’ve chatted here and there briefly and even got a pic with him.

Here are 5 things I’ve learned from watching him train:

1. Be consistent - he shows up whenever he’s able to.
2. Eliminate distractions - when he’s training there’s an implied message that it’s his time to take care of himself.
3. Have a routine - he has a plan when he’s there.
4. Train hard - he still continues to push himself every day at the gym.
5. Have fun - it’s cool to see that he still loves to get after it at the gym
