17 years ago today, I thought my life was over.
I was riding around with a few of my friends to make a drug deal and had a busted headlight that I didnāt fix because I was so addicted to painkillers and selling drugs.
The cops pulled me over and my heart sank into the pit of my stomach because I was so scared of what was to come.
They searched the car and found everything. The money. The drugs. The scale. I was arrested that night and charged with a felony (possession with intent to distribute marijuana)
I went to court several months later and on October 21, 2008 I started a 90 day jail sentence that would change my life forever. Behind bars, I met my cellmate who introduced me to fitness and it literally saved my life from the depths of addiction.
Since then, the felony has come off my record and my life personally and professionally has completely transformed.
I share this to give people hope that are in their ādarkest hourā right now.
The light will come. Donāt give up on yourself. Keep moving forward.

Your failures don't just define you.
It's how you respond to them that counts.
Every day you have a new opportunity to change.

Fitness is the ONE THING that if you donāt keep up with it, it can negatively impact other areas of your life.
But if youāre physically fit...what a difference it can make in those areas!

Iāve been at the gym probably a dozen times when Arnold Schwarzenegger is there. Weāve chatted here and there briefly and even got a pic with him.
Here are 5 things Iāve learned from watching him train:
1. Be consistent - he shows up whenever heās able to.
2. Eliminate distractions - when heās training thereās an implied message that itās his time to take care of himself.
3. Have a routine - he has a plan when heās there.
4. Train hard - he still continues to push himself every day at the gym.
5. Have fun - itās cool to see that he still loves to get after it at the gym

Iām an award-winning personal trainer, the author of three books, and the host of the Adversity Advantage Podcast. I'm on a crusade to inspire others to overcome adversity and become the best version of themselves. Iām a former convicted felon and drug addict who spent time in jail for āpossession with intent to sell.ā While locked in a cell, I kicked addiction, slayed my personal demons, and reinvented myself. I've been in recovery since the day I was incarcerated in 2008.
