When a killing spree occurs, the inevitable reaction is one of shock and disbelief at the unexpected and unimaginably violent chain of events. This compelling new series features such murders in forensic detail, drawing upon the testimony of those involved and those who knew the perpetrator to tell the story behind each chain of rapidly executed killings.

In 1982 Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania was rocked by a shocking killing spree. In a matter of hours, 40 year old ex-prison guard George Emil Banks brutally murdered 13, many of whom were his own flesh and blood.

This film was first broadcast: 25 Aug 2014

I don't see how he managed to be a prison guard in a tower handling weapons when he was a convicted felon that's not allowed to handle weapons or ammunition.

12 death sentences, 28 years from sentencing to execution........should have been a maximum of 28 days

After killing his family apart from his mother you would think the police would know he would go there next. They should have been monitoring his mothers house.

Only 7 years for shooting a man dead?! What a joke sentence! An insult to the manā€™s family.

Oh wow, after seeing his last name, ā€œBanksā€ and ā€œfamily killerā€ I remember this massacre well, graduated High School that year and was going into the military in November of that year, I never forgot about it as I lived in Philly at the time and moved back there after my service, this is the first docu about it that I have seen. Thanks for posting it.

One of my biggest fears is being put on a jury for a trial involving harm to children. I donā€™t know how anyone recovers from that.

It sounds like he showed signs of a psychotic disorder for years, but no one noticed.

My parents worked with George Banks at SCI Camp Hill. To put it lightly, they said he was nuts. I feel so bad for children. Now we are coming up 40 years. And Iā€™m watching this a week from his 80th birthday.

Shielding the jury from evidence that may invoke an emotional response in them is an emotional choice. Its exactly what the court is trying to avoid by excluding the photographs. That's what I'd call a miscarriage of justice.

Never understood people like this being angry with innocent people and taking lives because they're not happy with their own.
