Env scientist here:
You are both right about ozone because there are 2 types: good (stratospheric) and bad (tropospheric). Stratospheric prevents harmful UV radiation whereas tropospheric ozone is a greenhouse gas that prevents radiation from the Earth being able to pass into space thus causing global warming. Stratospheric ozone is produced naturally while tropospheric ozone is produced by humans. The Montreal protocol heavily regulated chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs -> the stuff in aerosols) thus the hole in the ozone layer has been making a miraculous recovery which is why you probably don’t here much about it anymore.
Also interestingly enough we use ozone to disinfect our drinking waters sometimes since it produces less toxic disinfection byproducts than free available chlorine.
Hope that helps!

To put a few things right:
1. The whole „Nikon is dying“ thing came from some badly informed influencers etc who were trying to get views with clickbait videos / articles.
2. Yes, Nikon had ONE year of losses in 2020, partially because of COVID but mainly because of shutting down the Japanese factories and moving to Thailand, stopping production on some DSLR lines and not yet having enough mirrorless.
3. The Z 6/7 II were not ideal when they came out (just after the Canon R5 and R6) and didn’t allow Nikon to recover market share.
4. HOWEVER, the Nikon Z 9 has been extremely popular since launch and has seemingly gotten a lot of marketshare in the professional / high speed camera market, also launching it at $ 5500 which is 500 / 1000 below Canon Sony‘s equivalent model was a massive deal.
5. The Z 8, basically a mini Z9 with the same technology is even more affordable has been equally successful and considered to be one of the best hybrid cameras.
6. Nikon got sued first by RED for implementing NRAW which is a compressed codes based on TicoRaw‘s compression algorithm which sports industry leading efficiency! Nikon then sued back, basically questioning the validity and righteousness of the patent. The suit got eventually dismissed without prejudice.
7. Nikon is making significant profit with both their cameras and lenses and currently growing. Look at the current financial statements. Also, they acquired SLM a German company a market leader for industrial high tech 3D printing for $ 660 million, showing that Nikon has considerable finiancial resources. RED will have been significantly less then that.

The McDonalds hot coffee lawsuit wasn't ridiculous, it's a popular misconception that litigation happy America allowed it to happen but the woman suffered extreme burns and McDonalds were found to intentionally make their coffee way too hot for consumption so it would last longer and they'd need to brew fewer times throughout the day.

0:32 that hole conversation started getting real funny as a opening bit.

From what I understand, Nikon historically have made a lot of their money through glass. I believe they make glass for a number of other companies too, and they used to even have Nikon lenses on other cameras (e.g. the Plaubel Makina). They took too long shifting their focus to mirrorless and that's largely the cause of their downturn, but the last year has seen a big uptick in their fortunes now that they're heavily focusing on it. The Z8 and Zf look to be very popular so far - the Zf is apparently one of the best-selling cameras in February in Japan.
I've got a Z9 that I largely use for wildlife photography (an area that Nikon still dominate, in my experience, and they have by far the best telephoto selection), and its video spec is really, really good. The only things really missing are a better LOG profile (I hate grading the current one, compared to Panasonic's), and video-specific lenses. If the RED purchase means Nikon are gonna start churning out video lenses, we could be in for a bit of a treat.

When Nikon released the Z6 it wasn't the same situation as the RED lawsuit. You had to pay a $200 upgrade fee and send your camera back to Nikon to enable ProRes RAW recording, which we all know is an Apple codec, and Apple pays that license fee to RED. The lawsuit really started with the Z9 and the NRAW codec that Nikon created with IndoPix. If video is just a series of stills, then RAW video is just a series of RAW photos, and every professional camera can take a series of compressed RAW photos. The patent should never have been granted. It's partially the fault of the patent office, but also RED. When filing a patent, you're supposed to disclose if use of the technology had been mentioned or used prior to the filing and it had.
As for the lens rotation and Nikon, Nikon were making lenses before most companies. They used to make lenses before they made cameras and made lenses for Canon at one point in history, so I would argue that everyone else's lenses are rotating wrong. I look at it the same way you drive a screw; right goes in and left pulls out.

15:30 Nikon is not on their deathbed. They do more than cameras. In addition to buying RED, they also have Marc Roberts Motion Control (which I believe you guys use... right?). They manufacture medical imaging equipment. Also, best bit, and something I learned recently from a Nikon Rep: while Sony makes all the generic sensors for companies to retool and send to Sony for production, the fabricators that makes Sony's sensors are... made by Nikon! So whenever any Sony Pony uses the whole "Sony makes the sensors in your camera" argument, you can always tell them that the machines used to make those sensors were made by Nikon.

I shot a short film about 10yrs back, on a RED with Nikon glass, and it was a surprisingly good combo, I'm sure there's opportunities for RED to get some amazing custom glass from Nikon.
I also think Nikon started to return to form about 2yrs ago with the Z9 and then the Z8, which are both phenomenal cameras, (I shoot on Z9) and both sold really well.
Hopefully it all works out well for both companies, more competition for Sony and Cannon should be good for everyone 🙌🏻
