you have to realize, the early godzilla movies were made in the 1960s and early 70s, technology was all practical effects. I remember as a kid on sunday mornings at 11am they would have a monster mystery show with random monster movies and horror flicks from the 60s and 50s. Classic scifi, it was a blast.

Guys, there have been TONS of Godzilla movies. The Japanese Godzilla movies go back to 1954 and continued until modern times in both live action and anime forms. There are also several American Godzilla movies as well. Godzilla is recognized in the Guinness World Records as the longest running film franchise in history.
For those of us growing up "back in the day" (at least the boys) the Japanese monster movies were very popular, and Godzilla was the most popular of all. Of course the early ones didn't exactly have modern state-of-the-art effects. But they were fun for young boys of the time. My mom liked them too, but she's always been "different." Lol

About the movies: The very first Godzilla is a serious movie about the dangers of atomic testing. Godzilla is awakened because of the tests and goes on a rampage. This goes away in the later movies but, in the 1st you can get sick from the radioactivity Godzilla leaves behind. If you decide to watch it make sure it's the original Japanese version because the American edit cuts out a lot of the carnage. Don't think it's dumb because it's a man in suit. The ending may just make you cry.

Ok. What is often missed. "Godzilla" was originally a visual metaphor for the Nuclear Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan. In 1954, when the original was made, there was rightfully a strong fear of the prolific spread of atomic weapons, and to it's original Japanese audience Godzilla was horrifying. As the years, and Hollywood, progressed Godzilla became what it is today. However, never forget that it was originally a hidden anti-atomic weapons metaphor. BOCult uses (hidden in the chorus) the true message of the song, which is those who fail to learn from History are doomed to repeat it. Luv Ya Guys!
