The idea of a continuing existence despite the passing of a person’s physical form is one that has long fascinated humanity. But what if it were possible to force such an entity into being via the use of nothing more than sheer willpower? In this episode we will examine a case in which that concept was tested and resulted in some degree of success. An undertaking which became known as the Philip Experiment.

I once read a study that 30% of writers admit that they talk to their characters in their head as if they were people with their own will and ideas. All the writers i know talk about about the character "not wanting to go with the plot" or "deciding this without my permission." I find it likely that whatever writers are experiencing is similar or the same phenomenon as in this study.

Always wondered why they didn't wonder if it was something else pretending to be Philip

I watch so much "Beyond Creepy" that the music starting at 5:55 made me feel like the video was ending even though it didn't make sense. 😂

Maybe instead of willing Philip into existence they just pulled him from an existing timeline in another universe

Madame Blavatsky, at the end, believed that there were no dead people returning ro Earth but that there were beings who could "clothe themselves from our minds."

Stories like this one are why I'm weary of people making things like "Slenderman" and other creepypastas as popular as they are.

"the table would shunt to the side, before returning to the original position" good luck trying to get the living to do that

Tulpas are completely fascinating to me, if a little unnerving (and certainly not something that I would dabble with myself). The question is, are they genuine thought-forms, or do other entities to slip in and assume the identity of the tulpa? Either way, there does seem to be some kind of latent power within the human mind that allows us to shape the reality around us. The implications are incredible. I often wonder if some of the more outlandish poltergeist cases (Gef the mongoose, for example, or the Bell Witch) might be somehow related to this phenomenon.

In Tibetan spiritual practices there's something known as a Tulpa, a spiritual being that can slowly be brought into material existence through sheer will alone. There are theories that when we create creepypastas like Slender Man and spread stories about dogmen, alien grays, and bigfoot, we inadvertently create these kinds of beings. Then they appear before people IRL, which causes more stories about them to spread, which makes them appear even more. A feedback loop.

Very interesting. I've never heard of this experiment before even when studying parapsychology. The drawing of the ‘nobleman’ Philip, was wearing 18th-century costume, not mid-17th. And we didn't burn witches in England. We hanged them. They did burn them in Scotland and on the continent though.

Their fictional creation of Phillip the nobleman is so convincing that feel disgust towards him when he was complicit in the prosecution of his poor commoner lover.

I'm not saying I believe this, but it doesn't explain the phenomena. My girlfriend's house is haunted (at times). Noises. Moving objects (small movements), smells (flowers, smoke). No visual manefestations. She's not scared one bit. She says "Nothing can hurt you". But. These can be heard by her dogs. Over the telephone. Movements of doors (once even rattling and nothing on the other side). These are not created by her mind. I don't know what they are. Moments of other dimensions or times? Ghosts? Who knows - but they can be heard and observed if she is not even home. So no- this is not the thing that causes things to happen. Whatever they are.

It is entirely possible that there's more than ONE cause for paranormal phenomena. It's important for us to keep an open mind. Thanks for another great one. Always a pleasure seeing the notification that Bedtime Stories has uploaded a new video.

Those who suggested demonic activity hit the nail right on the head. Demons love tricking humans. 👿

If enough people believe in it hard enough, it comes into existence. So be careful with those urban legends...
