There are countless myths and legends associated with Russia’s sprawling Lake Baikal. These include reports of a mythical monster which resides within its depths, and a hidden fortune in missing treasure. But by far the most intriguing of such tales, is an alleged encounter between the soviet army, and members of a mysterious underwater people. A race which has become known as the Lake Baikal Swimmers.

For some reason the idea of a giant pike scares me more than an aquatic dinosaur. Maybe it's because I'm from Michigan and have seen some scarily big pikes in very small lakes.

Encountering giant 10ft underwater entities would have to be a traumatic experience, even the most top-trained soldier would have a nervous breakdown. Charles Hickson once said that when he was abducted, it’s a type of fear that indescribable since it’s from something that isn’t supposed to even exist. Once the aliens put him on the ship, he thought he would never set his feet on Earth again.

Suggested future topics to explore: the dark watchers of the Santa Lucia mountains in California, the Dark Entry Forest/Dudleytown , and the Black Forest, Colorado haunting of 1994. Each one often gets overlooked but is worth a look into.

Lake Baikal is so unique in terms of its ecology, depth and the inability to get to the bottom and fully explore is so fascinating. Like the ocean we know so little about it! These tales are fascinating. I have a lot of curiosity about it. I'm super curious why it's teeming with life only until a certain point as well. I want to know what causes that

Lake Baikal has always fascinated me. The oldest, deepest and largest freshwater lake in the world! So old that there are species that are found nowhere else! It even holds the only freshwater seal species! A lake that old has to harbor some secrets!

It’s good to see you back and watching new episode on Sunday afternoon. And that creature from Baykal Lakes looks like a creature from black lagoon & deep ones from Lovecraft.

Strange fact: special ammo and rifle specially designed for underwater combat was delivered to Spetnaz and GRU comandos with project name codified as "Objekt 320-Baikal" ¿Coincidence?

Wow! What timing! I was going down a google rabbit hole of the deepest lakes in the world. Came across Lake Baikal and the ‘swimmers’. In the back of my mind I was wondering if Bedtime Stories covered this. Hopped on YouTube to see this was posted 6 hours ago!

Water stories are some or the best. Lighthouses, ghost ships, etc. All top tier.

I've never heard of Lake Baikal before. The "Netflix" version of "Unsolved Mysteries" recently told the story of the Lake Michigan UFO sightings in detail, interviewing many of the people who called 911 and the local weather bureau to ask about and/or report it. One officer was interviewed and, probably the most pivotal person who was a witness that day, the weatherman that tracked the UFOs on radar and was astonished by the seemingly ultrasonic movements of the objects. It was pretty spooky stuff. (While the mysterious, ghostly, otherworldly stuff is always appreciated, I was wondering when there might be another "true crime" episode of Bedtime Stories? I was going to say the last one I remember was the serial-killing couple, Fred & Rosemary West from the UK, but I guess the bizarre case of stalking and subsequent death of Cindy James, which was more recent on this channel, might also count as TC...)

Lake Baikal is just over 1 mile deep, 400 Miles Long and 50 Miles wide. It's estimated to be 25-30 MILLION years old. If there is any place where unknown ancient creatures could have evolved undetected, this would be it.

It makes a lot of sense for aliens to be hiding underwater, where we humans rarely go into while the aliens observe us by flying in and out the water whenever they want. Instead of having to come from other places in the Universe.
