Another note on the Dark Forest is that humanity was actually lucky that the people who heard Humanity's message were the San Ti, who actually wanted to invade. There are far worse and far more powerful aliens out there. As powerful as the San Ti are, they are small fish in a very VERY big ocean. For context, the Kardichev scale for civilization development, humanity is currently roughly a 0.6, the San Ti are a 1.8, the scale goes up to 4.
Scale explanation: 0 - Civilization that can't harness energy. // 1 - A civilization that harnesses all the power from their planet // 2 - A civilization that can harness all power from their star // 3 - A civilization that can harness all power from their galaxy // 4 - A civilization that can harness all power from their universe

I knew absolutely nothing about this & went in blind. Best show I've seen in ages. Im now reading up on all sorts of the 3 body problem, chaos theory, fermi paradox & more. I was never interested in physics in school & I'm dire at maths. Its never too late to learn stuff.
I've also ordered the books & I'm trying to resist watching the full version on Prime as my eyes are bad & its all subtitles.
Great show. Episode 5 was just wow!!

Someone told me that they picture Santi as Lekgolo from Halo. They are small worms that unify into single entities. One worm doesn't have intelligence but one “entity” does. In the case of Santi I think those entities could just “touch” each other and their thoughts are conveyed. This still fits the biomorphological analysis in my previous comment and explains why there are rouge “individuals” in their society.

Love your videos, even when you don’t get stuff quite right the first time. I read the first book in anticipation of the series and was glad I did. It’s soooo good. I’m halfway through the second book now.
It’s wild how they reveal a lot of things so early on in the show. For example in the book we don’t find out why “Saul” was chosen (because of the car crash assassination attempt) until about 8 years later, halfway into the second book!

I heard a philosophy professor argue that humour was our greatest intellectual achievment as a species. The reason being, you have to use all of your mind to understand and 'get' a joke. The rational side of the brain understands how the world should work/function. The abstract side pictures the scenario being depicted in the joke. The brain then figures out how and why the abstract world of the joke differs from the real world and we react in an instictive way with an animal like sound, a laugh. From our most primal brain function to our highest, all are engaged when listening to and finding a joke funny. Amazing when you think about it.
