I like how it makes sense for a bird to have a wild imagination despite being in a cage, considering that they're born to fly over many places. And he tells the fish of a world where he can "take flight". Probably the ocean, but flight is all a bird would know, so that's how he describes swimming.

I love the lyrics so much, especially how the fish's brother is saying that there's "somewhere he can take flight"
The fish is meant to swim, but his brother only knows about flying, so in this irony of the audience knowing these things, the line makes it so impactful :D
You already have the ability to do something awesome, you just need to find your context ^^

I'm a fish inside a birdcage
My brother always sings me songs
With his beak, he tries to soothe me
He makes me feel that I belong
He has a wild imagination
And tells me things that must be true
Like there's a world where I can take flight
Where I can freely move
So carry me from these walls
Brother of mine
Show me the world outside
It has to be true
I'm counting on you
To be my wings and my eyes
As I breathe into our silеnce
There's a voice that comforts me
It's a voice of understanding
It's the voice of empathy
Wings of feathers, tails, and fin tips
We feel each rock so differently
You gave me more than I could ask for
Indistinguishability
(x2)
So carry me from these walls
Brother of mine
Show me the world outside
It has to be true
I'm counting on you
To be my wings and my eyes

i know this has been discussed to death but the lines "you gave me more than i could ask for // indistinguishability" hits me right in the autism. all i ever wanted my whole life was to fit in, and when i finally "realized" i was autistic (read: got told by everyone who knew me (they assumed i already knew)) and started hanging out with other autists, suddenly i did! i am just some guy to them!

I think it's about two very different people with vastly different lifes and circumstances, understanding each other, like no one else could, by their shared feeling of being trapped by something. It could be disability, it could be controlling parent, it could be job they never choose or wanted. Fishes don't fly and Birds don't swim but they both understand imprisonment and lack of freedom

a friend of mine recommended this song to me today and i CAN'T get this artist out of my head. this and many other songs in the roster have unearthed certain emotions in me that no other song or artist has been able to do. i've NEVER felt like this towards a song. i don't even know how to describe it, it's THAT GOOD. the best words i can use are magical and enchanting. kind of like what Cosmo Sheldrake likes to go for if you're familiar. but the choices in terms of melodies and instruments that this artist makes create something entirely unique to my ears that is so hard to put down. i could keep gushing about how oddly good it is, but i'll spare this comment section. until we meet again, dear traveler!

listening to this while my family destroys the bedroom trying to find the rat that jumped out of a drawer just hits differently
