This sounds like a villainâs song, but the villain is a shapeshifter whoâs main form is a really pretty woman with a really vintage look with bright red lipstick, black hair and really pale skin and she become obsessed with the protagonist, to the point where she thinks sheâs in love with them and keeps trying to kidnap them and make them fall in love with her

Dear reader,
You probably just landed there thanks to YouTube recommendations as it happened to me a month ago, and as it seems to have happened to many other persons in the last two months. You probably do not know The Crane Wives. I have been here too.
We do not know why the YouTube recommendations algorithm seems to lead so many people here, precisely listening to Curses, a three-year-old song. However, we probably know why this happened: you clicked because of the beautiful fox on the cover.
Please, please listen to this song, and if it gets stuck in your head a little, try all the other songs by The Crane Wives, from this album (Foxlore) and their other ones. They do not have as many views as this one and they DESERVE IT.
I have been listening to them non-stop for a month now and feel like I find a new gem among them every other day (Curses, Tongues & Teeth, The Moon Will Sing, Little Soldiers, Allies or Ennemies, Ribs, How to Rest, The Hand That Feeds, Know How...). You can also support them on Bandcamp if you want.
Anyway, be safe browsing YouTube!
Love from another wanderer

There's a fire in my brain and I'm burning up
Oh my, oh my
Keep running for the sink but the well is dry
Oh my, oh my
Every word I say is kindling
But the smoke clears when you're around
Won't you stay with me, my darling
When my walls start burning down?
This house is my name like an elegy
Oh my, oh my
Echoing where my ghosts all used to be
Oh my, oh my
There's still cobwebs in the corners
And the backyard's full of bones
Won't you stay with me, my darling
When this house don't feel like home?
When this house don't feel like home?
Oh ashes, ashes, dust to dust
The devil's after both of us
Lay my curses out to rest
Make a mercy out of me
This tired old machine is a-rumbling
Oh my, oh my
Singing songs to the secrets behind my eye
Oh my, oh my
All my aching bones are trembling
And I may yet fall apart
Won't you stay with me, me darling
When the war starts in my heart?
When the war starts in my heart?
Oh ashes, ashes, dust to dust
The devil's after both of us
Lay my curses out to rest
Make a mercy out of me
Oh ashes, ashes, dust to dust
Tell me I am good enough
Lay my curses out to rest
Make a mercy out of me

I love the change of tone on the last âwonât you stay with me my darling?â Instead of a calm question, itâs changed to a tone of desperation and insanity. It adds so much depth to the song, like a story.
I love the saxophone/clarinet solo too, you (I) donât see that much anymore in pop

As a musician myself, I can really appreciate this. It honestly sounds like heaven. You don't hear enough three part harmonies anymore but I always catch them in your music. You also shed the spotlight on a lot of instruments that are usually kept in the background. A good mix of gentle and raspy vocals nurses a complex mood and tone the likes of which can be found almost nowhere else. You truly do defy musical stereotypes and i hope to see more like you. Very well done.

For me this song is just like...someone suffering from mental illness and being pulled really far under (getting really sick) and begging someone to stay with them to keep everything at bay. Was a big song for me when I was experiencing a really big low brought on by an anxiety disorder. Particularly âashes ashes, dust to dust, tell me I am good enough â. You can call me emo, Iâm sorry for being dramatic.
