Even the big short couldnt predict people blaming the teachers. That was a totally wild claim.

I thought it was illegal to shout "fire" in a theater, but if you shout "short sell" or "bank run" to investors, why, that's just sensible banking, apparently!

fun fact! the dodd-frank act was a replacement for the glass-steagall banking act, which was an act put into place during the great depression to prevent something like that from ever happening again. recessions and depressions used to be INSANELY common in the US, like, most people only know the great depression but depending on how you define it there were anywhere between seven and ten depressions in the US between 1780 and 1932. the glass deigel act worked so damn well people forgot what it was supposed to do and repealed it. several economic historians who testified during the repeal of glass deigel said that, if repealed, the US could expect another major recession within the next 15 years. guess what fucking happened.

I like how the markets are all bulls and bears and alpha bollocks until something unexpected happens and then it's like a herd of antelope that's just spotted a cheetah

High risk means high reward. And you can always make the risks someone else's problem after you've reaped the rewards.

If you showed this video to someone in, say, 1990 and told them "this is what top level journalism looks like in the year 2023", what do you think they would say?

Before Dodd-Frank there was Glass-Steagall. Dodd-Frank was modeled on Glass-Steagall, which came about because of the Great Depression of 1929. In the lead up to 1929 there was a very similar political philosophy or ideology as we now confront. Look out, 1929 is going to look like a public holiday compared to what’s coming. The corporate fascists of our time will do everything in their power to deflect the costs or their own hubris on the rest of us. Good luck.

If you want a nice short overview of the '08 financial crash, Folding Ideas has a video about crypto 'Line Goes Up' that explains it at the start.
