Being an L.A. native, and not having lived in N.Y., but having visited a bunch, I am not really sure how people move to L.A. and not completely freak out. L.A. is so insular. Going from a street centric culture to a driving centric culture, and all that those things entail, it is so different. It may be my L.A. bias, but it seems like it would be easier to go from left to right, as opposed to right to left. One could move to L.A. and easily not meet a single person and make a single friend. I am not saying that it is easy making friends in N.Y., but in N.Y., you are forced to be in the streets with all the other people. L.A. you are forced to be in your car, separated from other people. It takes a huge effort to not only get out and meet people, but you need other people to get out to meet you.
