Something I will say that I think you don't really learn about French culture until you experience it is that service and retail workers will often really insist on be greeted like normal people before you get down to whatever business you have with them.
So if you're used to just walking up to a retail worker and straight up asking them something, like you might be in North America, you might find that won't fly in France until you've actually literally greeted them and they've reciprocated with at least some kind of a "hello", otherwise they get real short with you real quick lol
