I will say, I don’t think Ian gets enough credit for stepping up, holding down the fort, and keeping Smosh alive over the years. It shows how much he loves Smosh and it’s his baby and he’ll keep it going.

Mad respect for Ian. Let it be known that Smosh would have never made it this far if not for his resilience. He really believed in this project and he’s held on long enough to see it come back to fruition. That takes immense strength and patience.

Whoever was that teacher who paired these two deserves to be praised.

to everyone saying that Ian was emotionally distant in this video: i really don't think he was. As someone who is uncomfortable showing emotions (let alone on camera) i know how hard it is to even just talk about these things. And you can see in the way he talks about their friendship that he's clearly spent a lot of time reflecting on it, and it shows great emotional intelligence. Not everyone wants to be completely vulnerable on camera for millions of people to see, and that's fine.

Don't know if anyone else has said it but props to Ian's friend Diana for pushing for them to talk again

this is a "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's yours. If not, it was never meant to be" type of friendship

Having male friendships where you're allowed to be vulnerable with each other is so so important. Glad you guys made it.

"Even if it doesn't do well, I know this was the right thing. And if we burn it to the ground, I am happy to do that with you." what a raw line, straight from the heart

From a business standpoint, let’s talk about how impressive what Ian did actually was. He was handed a failing business after stripping all of its resources, and told to make it work, or else his whole livelihood is ruined, and he somehow kept them afloat. That’s some extremely impressive work by Ian

This is less of an interview, but more of two friends finally passing the final milestone in repairing their friendship. A truly beautiful moment...

This feels more like a couples therapy session rather than an interview and I'm living for it

Hearing how Ian was so sure that there would be a bunch of collabs between Smosh and Anthony's Channel after the initial departure and him realizing how that would probably never happen makes me feel like all the "Where's Anthony?" bits must've stung much more than we realized since Ian must've been wondering the same thing for all those years

The fact that Ian had to become numb in order to cope with everything is just..so heartbreaking. No one should go through that and I can't imagine all the stuff Ian had to deal with and I couldn't be more glad that they're back together. I haven't watched any Smosh videos lately, but I hope Ian's doing better with Anothony back in the picture and with their friendship becoming stronger once again. My best wishes go out to them. My childhood heroes.

It's heartbreaking to see the difference in emotion between these two and how they converse during the video. Since his seperation, Anthony had time to declog all the emotional resentment he had for the company and was finally able to do his own creative thing. This interview was likely the first time he was able to lift those weights off personally to Ian. And it's why he was able to cry at the thought of remembering their first lunch together, and how he realized that his childhood bestfriend was still there. In the meantime, Ian was left to manage this big company all by himself; he went through Anthony's seperation, Defy medias abrupt collapse, being adopted by Rhett and Link, the rewriting of Smosh's brand, managing a team of talented people, and handling criticism from the public. I couldn't imagine just how much emotional baggage Ian had to carry that he had to seek a therapist. And he mentioned getting therapy in this video like it wasn't a big deal. But it was a big deal. Because Ian learned how to compartamentalize all his issues, he likely dealt with the emotional trauma a long time ago. Which is why, despite discussing all the things he went through in Smosh and with Anthony, that he got so used to not expressing his emotions. And its why we see him talk somewhat slower and emotionally un-phased in this interview. It's the image of a person who went through so much but still wants to put a smile on our faces. Though Anthony went through his fair share of struggles, I feel like Ian doesn't get enough credit whenever people talk about Smosh. And I think that's where the fans had it wrong - that Smosh wouldn't survive with just Ian in the picture.

Rhett and Link are truly the dads of early YouTube culture. Through every issue, every financial struggle, they truly support the actual talent born from this site. So much respect.

51:43 I've not heard Anthony laugh like that in a long time. It's different from his normal "interviewing a guest" laugh.
