I have an anecdote with this concerto. I was walking home after a long hard day at work, feeling tired and frustrated about my own life. When I was almost at the door of the building I heard the first bars of the Allegreto Moderato (Which I have always loved) and that´s not very common at the place where I live, a middle class neighborhood of a crowded city in South America. I started walking towards the source of the sound and I noticed that it came from a catholic church that´s just half a block from my building, I also noticed that there were a couple trucks parked in the street, branded with the philarmonic orchestra of my city. When I got into the church (where the orchestra was obviously playing the concerto) the beauty of this music, hit me so hard that tears started to run down my face, I felt my heart full of love, strenght and a lot of other things for which I don´t even have a name, I felt like Tchaikovsky music was hugging me an telling me that it´s all right, that better times were coming, after that I saw my wife and kids that were sitting in one of the last rows enjoying the concert, and then, it was perfect. It was a series of free concerts that the city hall was offering to promote classical music in low an middle class neighborhoods and for some reason I (a semi-professional musician and art lover) didn´t know. I like to think that it was a surprise from life to me, the muses of art telling me that they hadn´t forgotten me and that no matter what happens, there´s many reasons to carry on.
