So I've recently come to understand that not only do people BELIEVE this nonsense, but it's part of a deeper history of racism, colonialism, and white supremacy. Modern repercussions include white supremacists trying to distance Egypt from Africa by claiming Egyptians weren't African or were white (yeah, I know), and desecration of historical sites and artefacts by conspiracy theorists trying to prove their own ridiculous claims because they don't trust established historical understanding or experts.
