About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in (1997) and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.

Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

Interesting fact: In early 1995 Justine's dad brought her a 4-storey terraced house in Notting Hill, and she and Damon moved in. They lived there until they split up - I think that was 1998 - so for 4 years they were a couple residing in the property. I know the exact house, I think she still owns it but she now lives in America and has done for some years. Blur fans will know what this song is about, Damon has definitely admitted to taking certain substances, and Justine more or less admitted having done so too. It's interesting to walk past that house, to look at the lounge and think "It happened here..."

There is such a heavy feeling of turmoil, insanity, pain and sadness in this song. Holy shit. Like the song is definitely what it feels like to have a meltdown while feeling like you're gripping to your sanity with buttery fingers.

Damon Albarn has one of the most beautiful (if slightly weird, but that makes it better) falsetto voices I've ever heard.

Weird to think this is the same band who made "Parklife" kinda reminds me of Radiohead who transitioned from mainstream rock to depressing avant garde music

This song sounds like the musical manifestation of your soul being burnt out from pain.

I love that most songs on this album include hidden tracks or demos at the end. Caramel does it the best in my opinion since there are 3 different songs here and they're all totally different. It's like taking a real bad drug trip, nothing lasts long and your imagination takes you somewhere else. it's dreamlike but turned nightmare, especially considering so much of 13 is based off the cataclysmic breakup with Damon and Justine. She's the one who introduced heroin to him in the first place and it couldn't be more thematically appropriate than here.

It appears Damon has found what he's been searching for in this song. He has definitely found genius with Gorillaz, and all the other musical collabs he's been on.

This and Battle were the best tracks on 13. Well just about Blur's entire catalog really. Damon's falsetto is one of the most beautiful things recorded in the 90s/00s.

I can't name no other album that sounds like 13. Even albums that this takes inspiration from don't sound like this. That's how you know you made a classic album.

Graham Coxon's expressive guitar parts make up a very large part of Blur's appeal for me.

I love the subtle touch that the keyboard in the end has a more... depressing? feel to it than at the beginning.
