So I've been playing D&D with this jazz drummer who is a music trivia machine. Jazz drummer, D&D? Well he's pushing 50 and with the kids and slowing down he's returning to his nerd roots. Anyways, I made a Floaters joke just out of the blue "Ares and I like a girl who stabs things." He got it, which wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise was that when he was in high school this song was actually a solid romantic song. If it came on the radio, you were having a good night kind of a song. I didn't know what to say, so he started talking about Buddy Rich and the game went on.

Itâs so strange to me that this is a âforgottenâ hit. Coming from a Bay Area Chicano family who always pops on the oldies during a bbq this song is just a given. Also as a boom bap producer who collected soul music like crazy and was in a rap group with dudes from Ohio, this song has been a part of my life since I can remember. Your breakdown of it however is hilarious. I never viewed it comically, I just liked how pretty and lush it was and just accepted it as a fact of life, but it truly is a ridiculous song. Larry really was the icing too.
I also happen to have loved modest mouse since âthe lonesome crowded westâ days so the fact this video brings together two of my fairly disparate musical tastes is pretty rad.

Unfortunately, earlier last year, Larry passed away. May he rest in peace, telling all the ladies his sign is Cancer and referring to himself in third person in the afterlife!
