Their next fight:    • HEMA instructors fighting with the Po...

Impressive fighting skills at work. There is a reason why these guys teach historical swordsmanship.

This match took place at the Blood & Iron historical martial arts school in New Westminster, BC, Canada. Richard Marsden, co-founder and principal instructor of the Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship, came for a visit to give two seminars, one on Fiore's longsword and another on Polish saber fencing. After the instruction he sparred with Lee Smith, co-founder and principal instructor of Blood & Iron.

My dude literally hit him with the "Well, what are you waiting for" in real combat, and got a hit for it. Absolute legend

Being a martial artist and always rolling my eyes when someone says "You can disarm a knife from an attacker", this footage proves you need to be Matrix level reflexes from defending yourself from a sword, mind you it's bigger than a knife, heavier to boot and expert practitioners narrowly avoid the barely predictable slashes. Now try doing that with something smaller, easier to hide, faster to deploy and attack with, yeah there's no way a person can disarm a knife attack. It great seeing each practitioner calling out a proper blow. Allows both parties to learn and grow.

were literally watching some of the best sword fencers in the world. The fact that they are literally trying to strike each other, but they make it look like its a choreographed movie fight: Absolutely legendary

I can't help myself not to imagine how extraordinary swordsmen were some humans in a time where this skill was highly appreciated by their society. Just try to imagine the moves of a Spartan or even better a true samurai fighting in a single combat. It would be out of this world and it's so sad that it seized to exist only to be substituted by fire weapons.

This has got to be my favorite video ever. I use it constantly as an example of what a real sword fight looks like

I always come back to this video. It’s like a dance between two perfect partners. The sportsmanship, the technique, the visible joy and yet holding nothing back in your swift actions. It’s as if you were made for this, like your blades are no more than extensions of yourself. Bravo

Memories broken The truth goes unspoken I’ve even forgotten my name I don’t know the season Or what is the reason I’m standing here holding my blade A desolate place Without any trace It’s only the cold wind I feel It’s me that I spite As I stand up and fight The only thing I know for real There will be blood-shed The man in the mirror nods his head The only one left Will ride upon the dragon’s back Because the mountains don’t give back what they take Oh no There will be blood-shed It’s the only thing I’ve ever known Losing my identity Wondering have I gone insane To find the truth in front of me I must climb this mountain range Looking downward from this deadly height And never realizing why I fight
