Iām also from West Virginia and weāre very protective of this song. Lana does this song beautifully. It reminds me a bit of when I heard Sarah Vaughan cover āOver the Rainbow.ā Whereas Judy Garlandās version had childlike hope, Vaughanās had a womanly wistfulness. Same here. Lana breathes a melancholy feeling into the song that feels like an ode to the Mountain State for all the troubles itās had lately. Truly beautiful. Thanks, Lana! ā¤

Iām from West Virginia born and raised and Iāve been a Lana fan since 2012. When I first started listening I was young and ungrateful - I wanted nothing more than to get out of Appalachia. I dreamt of Hollywood and New York and all of the glamorous places Lana would sing about. As Iāve grown up, Iāve learned to love the beautiful, special state of West Virginia - this really is my home, and it means the entire world to hear Lana sing our song š„²

Lana Del Rey is the best artist of her age in my opinion. She has her own style, her unique voice and lots of passion for music. Sheās always there to surprise us with new great songs. Iāve always been such a huge fan of you, Lana. If youāre reading this, we want you to know that we all love you so much and we always willš

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze
[Chorus]
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Verse 2]
All my memories gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye
[Chorus]
Country roads, take mŠµ home
To the place I bŠµlong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
[Bridge]
I hear her voice in the morning hour, she calls me
Radio reminds me of a home far away
Driving down the road, I get a feeling that I
Should have been home yesterday, yesterday
[Chorus]
Country roads, take me home
To the place that I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Take me home down country roads
Take me home down country roads

As a West Virginian, this hits different. Itās a beautiful song, but I canāt help but cry because as beautiful as this state is, itās trapped me financially and caused me hurt and pain, most likely unintentionally. I have such strongly mixed feelings. I want to get out of here and see the world, and then come back when I want to in order to visit family and friends. Itās really hard, people see the beauty but they donāt see the pain.

No matter how far we stray, we will always find our way back home. I hope you reading this gives you the courage and awareness, that no matter how far down a painful road you have gone, you can always turn around, go back, and be better. Be person you want to be, not what everyone around you wants you to be. Fight for your hopes and dreams, fight for hope, donāt just survive but thrive. There is only one life and it shorter than you think. Be fearless, have courage, compassion, conviction, and strength. If you ever feel alone, know you have a friend named Eleazar who sees your light, your heart, your souls and know that I believe in you, I always will. I see you are fighting so hard to make it through the day. Go my friend, chase your dreams. At the end of the day, we can sit and talk about how it went, and never once will I judge you but instead support you. I care about you. Thank you for being alive.

Lanaās voice sounds like home. Itās comforting, so soft, so soothing, like a mom singing a lullaby to her kids, all I feel when I listen to her is warm, peace, and I canāt help but smile and sigh in content because the universe brought me to a point where I can enjoy her music and relax and let the serenity of her vibe lull me to to a dream filled sleep. Where I can imagine myself with joy, at peace, and for once not feel like an outsider or that I donāt belong.
