We Germans always click on these videos to check if they are correct. Then we go to the comment section to add more weird things and indulge in our weirdness. :-)

A friend of mine moved from California to Germany/Bavaria, where I’m native.
She told me the most irritating habit of germans for her was that germans take everything literally.
When she got to know someone new she often used to say “It was nice to meet you! Let’s have dinner sometime!”, merely as a phrase to be friendly, then was baffled how many people took it worldly and responded asking for her phone number or directly suggesting an exact date for having dinner together. The positive part of that misunderstanding was that she in fact gained friends very quickly, cause she ended up throwing a dinner party for a lot of people 😂

For me as an German, if i had to wait 20 minutes, i would be already gone. Waiting is for me really a bad thing, i have a lot to do some days and waiting makes all even more stressful, because the time i have waited could have been used more for
productivity.
Also, if you have an Interview for a Job or apprentenceship, never come late, even the smallest minute could cause a negative opinion on you.

Also very important: "Erst aussteigen lassen."

The weirdest shock for me as a Swede, was when I stepped into an elevator, and everyone said “hello” to me, and when I stepped out, they all said “goodbye”! I had no idea of this elevator etiquette and at first it was so bizarre to me. Eventually I came to actually enjoy little conversations in the elevator.

The explanation that for Germans, pedestrians entering the bicycle lane is similar to them coming into the car lane made a lot of sense, and I have become more careful not to accidentally step into the bicycle lane. I find the deposit system for plastic bottles to be fantastic! I think getting cash back and increasing environmental awareness is a win-win situation. I hope my country also adopts it. Vielen Dank!

Don't forget the whole "Put all your damn groceries as fast as you can in your bag, while I throw them at you" cashier attitude.

Das mit der Spontanität hängt auch stark von der Lebenssituation zusammen. Früher in der WG sind wir oft spontan weggegangen. Heute, als Familie mit kleinen Kindern, geht das natürlich nicht mehr so einfach.

These posts are fascinating. I love watching them even if it’s hard for me to pronounce many of the words I’m learning. I wish others would do videos like this — explain, in an objective and non-judgmental way, the ins and outs of their cultures. I enjoy travel and dislike the idea of giving offense especially inadvertently. Thanks!

In Germany, when you're driving in your car, and you wait in front of a red light, and you stay a second too long when it turns green people immediately start honking behind you xD

These videos are so great! A great help to understand not only the language, but also the culture. Love them! I also really appreciate how clearly you speak and the useful subtitles.

Germans throw their own birthday parties! And bring their own birthday cake to work! So liberating! No worries about others forgetting it or not ‘loving you enough’ because they didn’t plan anything for your birthday. 👍👍👍🎂🎉🎊

Unter "lass uns mal spontan ein Bier trinken gehen" verstehe ich "passt es übermorgen um 18 Uhr?"

And don’t expect free drinking water when going to the restaurant. You will have to pay almost the same price as a beer or a soft drink for a fancy bottle of water.

I am Dutch and most of these are the same in the Netherlands. But I was annoyed that you can't pay with card everywhere .. at the end of the day you are walking around with a pocket full of change. Also, everyone seems to wait when walking for the green light even when nothing is coming.
