Kei ngā kaipara i te ara
To the ones who paved the way
Te hunga o te whenua taurikura
Who come from the land of prosperity
Tē aro i kaha rawa te moemoeā
We had no idea the dreams we had were far too big
I kaha rawa
Far too big

Ka hīkoi tahi tātou
We will walk together
Tauri pua ki ō tātou pane
Garlands of flowers in our hair
I te taiao ahurei, i tipu ai te rākau miro
In the realm of splendour, where the miro trees grow
Mahue mai ana ko ngā hua pirau
Where fallen fruit is deserted

Auē!
Alas

Mai i te papa ki te rangi rere ai
From land to sky we shall fly
Honea ana nā te makerewhatu
We’ll disappear in the cover of the rain
Ihumanea mai, pongipongi mai
The clever, and the dull
Kei te tūmanako rā
And the desire
Ka tanu ki wāhi kē
Is planted in another place

Takatakahia, takatakahia
March on, march on
Te ara i takoto i te rau tangata
Along the path that was paved by the many
Ki ōku taumata okiokinga
To my esteemed ones
Nau mai, nau ake
Let’s go together
Takahia te ara
Follow the path
Whano ki tua
Forward and beyond
Takatakahia, takatakahia
Takatakahia rā
March on and on

Ka hīkoi tahi tātou
We will walk together
Tauri pua ki ō tātou pane
Garlands of flowers in our hair
Ka pēhea te aroha i te mea ka ngaro?
But how can I love what I know I am gonna lose?

My favourite part about these Maori songs is the fact people that have never heard a Maori word before, are now being introduced to it through Lorde. Thank you Lorde for spreading our language/culture in a modern time before it gets completely forgotten about.

The beautiful voice of Dame Hinewehi Mohi, thank you Lorde for letting her and them, waiata (sing) to this song The Fallen Fruit. I love it.

Lorde’s vocals, even in the background, are so distinctive!

The NZ national anthem used to be sung in english only until Dame Hinewehi Mohi sung the Maori version only at the 1999 Rugby World cup. Since then, NZ sings it in Maori and english. It's absolutely wonderful that Dame Hinewehi Mohi is singing the main vocals of this song!

My favorite part is Lorde opting to take the backseat and have someone take the reins this time around

These te reo maori versions are AMAZING! I love how it isnt just a direct translation or re-recording, but instead sometimes different lyrics and whole new sounds! Lorde truly remade half her album, and it’s clearer than ever in this version of Fallen Fruit. Absolutely love how divine this sounds

In case you think Lorde sounds different, it's because it isn't Lorde. It's Dame Hinewehi Mohi performing the lead vocals.

The reason we like music is because we are immersed in the world of our dreams. Great natures love music, but they know better how to use it as a tool to achieve their dreams.

I'm so happy she decided to do this. Honouring the people of the land she lives in. Now I can't help but think what songs like 400 Lux would sound like in Maori 😌

This one is very powerful at that bass drop in the middle, and the Māori 'march on' part, made me cry

Since the very first time I heard Lorde's music, I knew she was way too mature for her age. This shows how she has always put ART first rather than fame.
