17:05 Maybe the chatter is being sarcastic, but fingerprints aren't reliable. The idea behind fingerprints is that no two people have exactly the same fingerprint, and therefore they are a reliable means of identification. There are a few problems with that. The first was pointed out by a National Academy of Sciences paper which found many flaws underlying the scientific basis of "forensic science," namely that there is no scientific basis for that claim. It seems to be true that no two people have identical fingerprints, but we don't know that for certain. Complicating that is the fact that, outside of CSI: Miami, fingerprints are rarely full, clean prints. They're partial. They're blemished. On top of that, there's the inevitable lab errors and human bias. Even if no two people share the same exact full fingerprint, it's possible for someone to be convicted based on a faulty fingerprint analysis, which does happen. These kinds of issues extend throughout much of forensic science, a science that was devised by police for the express purpose not of establishing a sound, rational, and rigorous science of detection, but of bolstering their cases.

Surprised she didn't push back with the obvious response. "If anyone that has ever told a single lie in their lives is a dishonest person, then by implication you're asserting everyone is dishonest, including your constituency." Which, I'm sure they are but it would at least be nice to get it on camera.
