Finding Motivation Is The Hardest Part

I'm in the process of working on several large and elaborate setups. Story of my life, but I love it. However, because of that and other things I have going on, I haven't been able to fully move in or get organized. That's been ongoing and causing a lot stress, while also ruining my workflow. I had to finally get some of that addressed so I can finally move forward! As I said in the video, getting sick was no fun, but it gave me the motivation to finally get moving on all of this and I've actually nearly finished since filming all of this. Can't wait to share more!

Sometimes finding motivation to start is the hardest part. Donā€™t you think? Iā€™ve been putting this all off for way longer than I shouldā€™ve, but now that I began, I canā€™t stop! Seeing the difference as well as tying up loose ends in the animal room has me feeling even more motivated as well, so like the mess, it also has a compound effect. Hopefully this helps some of you get motivated to do something youā€™ve been procrastinating on as well. Have a great weekend SerpaSquad!

the last section about cleaning is. Seriously relatable. Itā€™s a relief that someone who seems so put together also struggles with this

A lot of us actually find the 'behind the scenes' content very interesting. Even if you think it might be too mundane to make good content, showing us how you decide to set-up/organize your storage and tools is fascinating. You could have whole episodes of it and we would drink it up.

Thank you for showing your messy area. Iā€™ve been kicking myself over having reptile ā€œdishesā€ and supplies all over the place. I moved a year ago and am still trying to organize things. Thank you for letting me know that Iā€™m not alone.

Motivation is always hard. Depression, anxiety, many things can hinder progressive motivation. I too fall for the unmotivated bug but when you see the progress you make to create life, it can change your perspective and keep you going. I recently got back my motivation and was rewarded by finally seeing what I havenā€™t seen before somehow, several generations of shell dwellers from a small group of 5 parents. Just getting out of the slump is the hard part but remembering the goals you have and the outcomes you can achieve will always lead you to success! These videos are what also helps other people bring out their motivation to keep trying and bringing ideas to the mind. It helps me for sure. Love your videos and projects, they will always be an inspiration to keep that fire alive!

As an artist with adhd i relate to the cleaning/organizating part at the end sooooo much. Keeping my art supplies in order when i'm flitting from project to project is so difficult. Then when it gets bad its so overwhelming that its hard to even get started. Its honestly so reassuring to know someone i look up to so much has the same struggles :) And yeah kinda like you said its really helpful to just get started on *anything*, matter how small or insignificant. Just find one tiny thing, break it into even smaller steps if needed, and just focus on that. Starting is often the hardest part and once that's over its soo much easier to keep that momentum going.

Ha, seems you are human after all :) It's kind of reassuring to know that not everything in your life is as perfect and apparently effortless as you make yours builds seem! Well done you - if you could package up some of that motivation and send it my way, I'd be terribly grateful! Can't wait to see all the goodness you have in store for us in the future. As ever, big love from Scotland!

Oh, I can relate so much! For me, the "fear of starting" is way worse than the actual "thing I don't like". I don't like tidying up, but I also don't like living in chaos. However, it's so overwhelming to start. For me, it's not so much about motivation, it's a real feeling of being overwhelmed and "flight/freeze" response. (Yes, that's a mental condition with me, and yes, I take medication and have counselling. Still makes everyday life so hard)

This weekend, Iā€™m starting the bioactive terrarium Iā€™ve wanted to make since first finding your channel in 2019. Itā€™s been 50/50 genuine circumstance vs. losing motivation, haha. So excited to finally do it!! Thank you for all youā€™ve done for the community.

The Salamanders are glad your feeling better and also looking forward to a possible home in some of the tank rescapes.

The quarantine room speaks volumes about your personal ethics. Some people have mixed feelings about keeping animals in small enclosures, but your initiative, research, care, time and energy speak volumes about what is possible when you love animals and want to keep them. Your animals have an amazing life, and you're a powerful example of what stewards should strive to be.

Thank you so much for sharing you organization struggles. I have similar challenges. It might sound silly, but it's motivating to see you tackling this issue. Thanks for giving an update on other projects. I'm very surprised that it only takes 15 minutes to feed everybody.

Nice behind the scenes (and mind) video Tanner. No better way to get yourself motivated to organize the "chaos room" than to film yourself for all to see! There's a quote from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland that rings as good advice for getting started there, which you already have. "If you dont know which way to go then any road will get you there."! Goodluck with the organizing! You'll champion through it like you do to everything you start.

Thank you for the organizational honesty. I struggle with very similar challenges and its depressingā€¦ yet your behind the scenes footage is somehow helpful and relatable. Your home-made displays however are always fantastic!

I always look forward to your videos each week. Your in-depth explanations of not only what you are doing, but why you are doing it, is awesome. I can't wait to actually start implementing the stuff I have learned from watching you over the years.

My solution to cleaning a messy area is that every time I go through it, I put away or deal with just one item. Sometimes I get distracted and do more, but doing a bit at a time seems like nothing, but before you know it, it looks better.

for that empty space above the toad tank, you should place some little decorations, like a little sail boat or something now that you've got the space, strategically placed trinkets could add some texture to the room edit: try eva foam for the table top. you might be able to order a roll with the exact dimensions you need, but i'm not sure if suppliers will do that

I have depression and I feel that very much. It's so hard to get started. It takes so much energy. Once you've started things get easier but just that one push to start is... A lot.
