Each Pokemon Center has a theme and representative pokemon which is why the Shibuya one has mewtwo front and center, and it focuses more on fashion and street wear, while, for example, the Sapporo one features alolan vulpix and has more snow themed decor. A tip for collectors: each store (usually) also has gacha machines outside that sell pins with the city name and some landmark etc with pikachu or their star pokemon. They make for small souvenirs that are easy to bring back. Also, the train station and airport stores all have station master/pilot pikachu plushies with their airport code eg Haneda = HND, Narita = NRT, so you can't just buy one, you gotta go around and get them all lol.
Glad you had fun while you were here!

I think your review of the Sunshine City location probably would have been a bit different before lockdown! We lived in that neighborhood from 2019 to 2022, and basically watched the pokemon center eat up all of the other retail space on that floor before finally renovating the Pokemon center itself to flow better. Before all of that, it was pretty tight in there (and still can be tbh). The spread of the statues and whatnot outside of the actual store was gradual but it helps make it feel more special than the centers that are just one store in a mall imo.

I'm SO glad you got to see the Mega Tokyo one!!! When I went to Japan, I was staying at a hotel about a 5 minute walk from that mall. I was playing PokemonGO in my room one evening after getting back early, and I saw that one of the gyms said there was a Pokemon Center there, so I went over there on a whim. I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into, so discovering all the pokemon stores and statues and murals was genuinely better than Christmas. I cried when I saw the whimsicott statue. Definitely took more photos there than I took anywhere else on my trip. 100000000000/10 experience
Also, next time you go, you have to get a reservation for the Pokemon Cafe at the location in Nihonbashi in Tokyo!! The tickets are very competitive to get, but the experience is so worth it if you do! The food is adorable and quite good, there's a bunch of great photo spots there too, the merch is fantastic and exclusive to the cafes, and the performance part, while obviously geared towards kids, is very cute as well :)

Pikachu Sweets had this really unique drink when I went! I'd ordered Polteageist tea and had no idea it came with a whole interactive part. You got to pour tea from a Polteageist replica. They give you a little glove so it doesn't steal your soul. 😆 I might've had no idea what I was supposed to do except the person before me ordered the same thing, so I copied what they did. It's also where I learned how cute its Japanese name is (Bulbapedia explains it better than I can).
I would generally recommend the Pokemon Cafe at least once, but the Polteageist thing is the closest experience to that. The Pokemon Cafe is pretty childish, but it's adorable.

In the Mega Center, they also have a small exhibit of the Pokemon concierge set with a life-size Psyduck photo op, I don't think it's always open, the first time I walked through I almost missed it but it is by far my favorite part! it's across from the check-out exit door of the center when it's not open it's not obvious that it's there.

This is completely irrelevant, but Swell would make a great vampire. Like you know how in media vampires always seem to know about every historical event? Well Swell would be thst except it would just be random conventions taking place near major historical events
Anyway thats my swell fanfiction have a nice day
