Billy Joel on Extraordinary With Fareed Zakaria. This interview was aired only on CNN+ for a month in 2022.

Great recent interview! Includes some well known stories that keep getting deeper and deeper. Interesting to hear Joel talking about his 1970 suicide attempt, and other never heard before stories of his lifetime.

Very big thanks to a Facebook user in the Retold page for sending this footage over.

Note: I own nothing of this clip.

I really appreciate how Billy can still be so accommodating even after years and years of concerts and interviews. A genuine guy. I love his music.

Having gone to high school with Billy and following his career every step of the way since then I can honestly say that was one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen him do. Much like Billy’s professionalism, style and creativity are admired and studied so are yours. You’re every bit the consummate professional in your chosen field as he is in his. Thank you for YOUR talents.

One of my all life's favorite musicians and song writers. Humility is his essence. Thanks, Billy for your life, pain, talent, and music. You made my life richer with your music.

It's heart breaking to me that today's kids dont have a Billy Joel to grow up listening to. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Where his music spoke to me, to my soul. Kids today dont get to have that experience with music that we did back then. Today, they have no singing, they have a mic to yell rap into it.

It’s apparent that Fareed is a genuine fan and is quite knowledgeable about not only Billy’s music but his history as well. As a result, IMHO, I feel Joel responded to Fareed’s joy & was quite open with him. This was one of, if not the best, interview with Billy Joel that I’ve ever seen. I’m looking forward to seeing Billy at the 150th MSG concert!!

I honestly do not know if I’ve ever heard a better interview. Thank you for sharing the life and heart of this man who influenced our generation in ways that we probably do not know.

"Sing us a song you're the piano man, sing us a song tonight, well we're all in the mood for a melody and you've got us feeling alright". Simply put, that is Billy Joel.

Saw him last Friday at MSG. Probably the 7th time we have seen him live in concert. He may have aged a bit, but his voice, presence, piano playing are as fresh and relevant as when we saw him perform in the 90's. The secret to Billy's success, besides his unmatched talent are his lyrics. Whenever I hear the song "meet me in the middle" I think of Billy Joel. An artist today puts out a song like that with two minutes of repeated lyrics15 plus times, compared to a Billy Joel song that includes differing lyrics within each verse and a complete and compelling story. The 20,000 fans who saw him last week represented every age group imaginable. And in the end there wasn't single person sitting in their seat. All were standing up and singing a song to the "Piano Man"

I was a young teen and an avid piano player, saved my babysitting money to buy my first ever record. It was The Stranger. Loved his music then and now. Great memories. Thank you both great interview.

This Interview session is absolutely fantastic. Knocked it out the park. The questions, the editing, the visuals, the mini live performances and the story’s. What more can you ask for?! And Billy looks sensational with his weight loss. Saying I Iove this is an understatement

A fabulous interview: Being myself an 81 year old retired professional guitarist, I’ve lived part of my life through Billy Joel. His musicianship, and music writing blows me away. His lyrics astound me. My all time favorite is “The Italian Restaurant.

This interview shows again that Billy Joel is not only the greatest singer-songwriter and Rock pianist ever after The Beatles, but he is also an amazing down-to-earth and humble human being. I was so lucky and honored to be able to have a 15 min conversation with him and shake his hand in 1991.

Brilliant man! I will never forget His visit to USSR in 1988. He should have been given a Nobel peace price for that!

To hear Billy Joel saying he never liked his own voice is almost insulting. One of the most dynamic and fascinating voices in music.
