In this video, we’re going to talk about how to boost your serotonin: the happiness hormone.

Serotonin is a hormone that has many important functions in the body.

Serotonin...
• Contributes to feelings of happiness
• Raises mood
• Calms the mind
• Increases focus
• Reduces anxiety

A deficiency in serotonin can cause:
• A lowered mood
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Irritability
• Low self-esteem
• Insomnia
• Memory loss

The question is, what are the best ways to boost your serotonin? You can boost your serotonin naturally with these six tips!

1. Take L-tryptophan on an empty stomach (converts to serotonin)

2. Exercise (increases the conversation from tryptophan to serotonin)

3. Sun/vitamin D (Increases conversation from tryptophan to serotonin)

4. Probiotics, including kimchi and sauerkraut (increases tryptophan in the gut)

5. Massage (increases serotonin and lowers cortisol)

6. Fasting (significantly increases serotonin levels)

If your mood is feeling low, try starting with intermittent fasting and see if your mood doesn’t improve! Let me know how it works for you in the comments below.

Since I've been watching your videos and doing keto and IF and having incorporated everything on your list on this video, I haven't had a bout of depression in three plus years! Before that, on the basic American diet, I was a basket case! Thanks Dr. Berg!

For me it's b vitamins and omega 3. They do wonders in my mood which I assume they release serotonin. I become calm and drive very quietly. You can see me smiling for no reason really!

I have noticed that since doing healthy keto, and adding in salts as per Dr. Berg’s videos, I have had more energy from the electrolytes. Since doing intermittent fasting, I have a lot more energy, I am a lot more lighthearted in my thinking, and am learning how to stay grounded while thinking clearly. It’s like being on a natural high! I have considered prolonged fasting but for now, I have really appreciated the benefits of intermittent fasting throughout the spring, summer, and fall. It’s a nice alternative to some of the cleanses that seemed complex or harsh, whereas keto and IF have been gentle. The tips from Dr. Berg help accelerate the process! Thanks Dr. Berg!

Thank you for your continued gems of nutrition. I grew up as a functioning alcoholic and have only recently realized this after starting a keto diet combined with IF- I'm 61 going through menopause and my metabolism has drastically changed. I've also discovered that my lifetime depression was from learned addictive responses to stress, which was reinforced by poor understanding of food and nutrition. I'm now sleeping deeply , my energy is steady and I'm not reacting fearfully with my mental attitude towards daily stress.
