You sound like you don't really understand what makes good TV on a commercial channel. If 'The Piano' had only been about the piano-playing, and nothing about the player, then the TV audience would have been considerably smaller. Not too many of us would want to sit through an hour or so of recitals by a range of random unknowns of variable ability unless we got at least a little invested in the performer for whatever reason. So, on the contrary to your contention, Channel 4 got the programme exactly right and you need to try harder to understand TV programme dynamics and, more broadly, the art of sales and marketing.

I missed the broadcasts (not watching TV) and caught the YouTube presentations of Lucy and her Amber Trust story plus her teacher demonstrating how he supported her. This was after hearing her play the Chopin Nocturne in B flat minor on YouTube, which had somehow worked its way into my feed. That performance was unbelievable, even if you did not know Lucy's back story and had not seen her play but had just listened. I then listened to her festival Hall performance of the Arabesque by Debussy. Up or down, these two performances made Lucy a well-chosen winner.
I don't know if Lang Lang and Mika had a hand in the final judging or whether it was independently judged but the gentle dedication of her teacher, Daniel, and the rewarding performances given by Lucy could not fail to please. The take home message for me was learning something about the excellent work of the Amber Trust and then hearing Lucy enjoying music and having the power it gave her over her own existence. I never saw the shows on TV and they may well have sucked. The finale outcome and the declaration of the eventual winner was a home run by any standards. Now is the time for you to put your own ideas forward and see if Channel 4 will employ you for a repeat of the series.

I loved the show actually, but not because of the story’s but because of that I am totally capable of making up my mind of what I think impresses me or not when it comes down to music and piano playing. I did not always agree with the judges either. What I did not like was that there was quite many people we didn’t got to hear on the show. But as for a lot of things that you get to consume in the media, something you need to filter out that doesn’t necessarily will tick the box. I like that people in all ages could attend. And different types of music as well.

I agree for some of the people, but that lady with the red hair whonhad the autistic son wrote that piece as lullaby for her son as she found the piano was able to calm him down and put him to sleep. I think that is very important information for the audience when you're listening to her play (especially since it was an original piece) and i thought it gsve a lot of context there.

I felt so let down by this show. The premise was that it was a 'public piano' and I was under the impression they'd just be watching completely unsuspecting members of the public, not hand selected pianists. Hardly a surprise that they can win a competition when they've clearly applied, filmed an intro, and spoke with the host of the show prior to playing.

I didn't see the programme but was aware of it at the time of broadcasting. When i saw that yer person from Strictly was fronting i suspencted it would be that kind of show. But 99% of TV is melodrama, even the news
. TV is essentially entertainment and I've no beef with that. I do with GOAT persons as if we can know these things. I'm happy with IMOs.

You missed a main point of the show: that was not a competition and they didn’t know that they have been watched by Mika and Lang Lang. That made this show unique.
