I like the comparison with the Pokémon background. But I get to wondering if the basic, clear white background was purposeful for the design of the gameboy so you could clearly see the sprites

Whenever I think of chapter 1, the first image that pops into my mind is that log cabin with the frog next to it. I'm excited to hear you talk about that area more! Oh and by the way, emulation DOES mess up the rhythm combat, but I usually only play the game on my GBA SP so I don't usually have to worry about that. I highly recommend everyone else play that way as well
